What are some meat substitutes???!
I am a vegetarian (of course) and my mom is too and I want to know if there are other companies for meat substitutes. My mom buys :
~ MorningStar Farms
~Boca
~ Gardenburger (like one or two things from them)
That is it. I want to know if there are any others that are easy to find? We have a Whole foods and a Trader Joes near us, so if any are from those places please include them!!!
Thanx!

Awesome both you & your mom are vegetarians! Some other meat substitute brands:
Tofurky, Amy's, Lightlife, & Yves.
And meat substitutes from foods:
Tofu can be made into chicken (sticks, nuggets, wings), ribz, bacon, burgers, chicken patties, & broiled chicken.
Seiten can be made as a chicken, beef, pepperoni, ribz, steak & duck substitute.
Tempeh can be made as burger & bacon substitutes.
TVP can be made for beef crumbles to make tacos.
Beans can be used sometimes to make burgers and steak like things.
Portobello mushrooms can be made for burgers & steaks.

y dont you eat meat its very unhealthy theres vital nutrients in meat your body needs for energy also dont look at my pic then lol
well i am in nz so i am not sure whats in your area. I like tofu sprayed with olive oil and fried then put in curry noodles with some vegies. I get loads of fake meat from my supermarket. They have sausages and wiener schitzel and burger patties. My local health food/ wholefood store has vegan cheese and remember cheese is a good protein. So is hummus and you can get that from the supermarket and have with pita bread. Baked bean or chilli bean nachos are good. My wholefood store also has fake chicken and pies with tofu and stuff in them that you can add the cheese too. Mushrooms are good too. You can make your own burger patties using cashew nuts or soy beans. If you want you can email me and i can send you recipes for those. I just might be slow cos i am lazy :]
In answer to your meat substitution question, there are many vegetarian sources for protein as in all types of beans, lentils, tofu. These are good 'non-animal' protein sources. If you are a person that eats dairy you have eggs, cheese, milk, yogurt, ice cream. Most people get MORE protein than they need so being a vegetarian is no problem for most people. There are also protein drinks, shakes and powders you can buy. Most health food stores could also help you.
Beans and Rice, make a perfect protein.
Peanut butter. Most nuts.
tofu its reallly good and if you go to the health food store they help you with whaever your tryin to look for.
Actually our bodies are meant to handle meat or else there would be terrible side affects from eating meat...which there isn't. We're omnivores. But there are a lot of proten sources availible for vegans. Protein shakes, protein pills, some vegetables have protein---but you'd have to eat a lot to make up for one serving of steak--but hey, whatever makes ya happy!
Personally, I never feel the need to eat fake animal bits, but if I ever did, there's the Sanitarium brand. They make a range of canned products that are available in some supermarkets' health food sections.
I understand the argument in favour of the fake animal bits is that some new veg*ans perhaps 'miss' the taste and/or texture of animal flesh, but i don't 'miss' it in the least. I've tried some of those products out of curiosity (and am singularly unimpressed), but I prefer to get my nutrients from (largely unprocessed) vegetables, pulses, fruits, nuts, seeds, grains, and, currently, dairy - though I've been cutting back on that lately. I don't mean to disparage those who like to eat the fake flesh, but, for me at least, I just think it's a monumental cop-out. It seems a very expensive (and lazy) way to get the same nutrients you can get from a balanced veg*an diet, while at the same time seemingly reinforcing the erroneous non-veg*an argument that you're missing out on something if you're not eating animals. *shrug* just my opinion.
I was going to say Boca but you already have it..sorry!
