Vegan Coffee: Soy vs Oat vs Rice milk?!

Question: Okay.... I'm thinking of easing myself into becoming vegan (or if not, then being some kind of strange category inbetween vegetarian and vegan).

I just want to ask your opinions on the 3 vegan milks mentioned above. What do you prefer in your tea/coffee - or did you start having it "black" when you turned vegan?

See... I love a good coffee with frothy, velvety milk. However, I absolutely detest soy milk. If I could make it extinct, I would! I bought some oat milk the other day and am still trying to decide how I feel about it. It doesn't go velvety and tastes.... interesting. Rice milk I haven't tried yet and have been told it's not suitable for coffee.

SO... your opinions/suggestions please?

You could try almond or hemp milk. There is also coffee creamers such as Westsoy Crème de la Soy & Silk Original Creamer. So I would suggest the creamers for your coffee!

I looove Soymilk. Silk Soymilk is the best, if you have not tried that one. I prefer the Silk Fiber Plus. I have tried rice milk and it is okay, a bit sweet and thin compared to soymilk and others.

For images of what it looks like you can search online (google images), and there are recipes for almond milk. You can also buy many things from- http://www.veganessentials.com/

Also congrats on wanting to become veg*an, here are some info on nutrition/health:

Silk soy milk

almond!!! awesome on being vegan

silk soy..yummmmmm!

A couple of weeks ago I did some googling and found a lot of coffee drinkers like Soy Dream for coffee because they think it froths better than Silk. I haven't tried it yet, though.

I like almond milk but not in coffee because of the color. Almond milk doesn't have that weird soy aftertaste (which I love, btw) so it reminds me more of milk.

Rice... I love soymilk but its taste doesn't mix well with coffee =.

Well, there are different soy milks with different tastes, so you may want to try another one. It's also a bit of an acquired taste. Silk also makes soy creamers that should be nice in your coffee. Rice and almond milks tend to be a little thin, so they may not be best for your coffee.

There are also other brands of soy creamer available from several online vegan retailers.

I'm not a coffee person, never was, and I have my tea with just sugar. But a friend of mine likes her tea with Silk.

Rice MIlk ^_^

i've never had oat milk, but i think rice milk is horrible. kind of like white water. silk brand soy milk is the best (just not the light version- hence white water). oh, and also the vanilla silk is awesome in coffee. i've only been vegan for a few months, so i'm sorry i couldn't be more help!

Trader Joe's sells almond milk and it's very popular. TJ's also sells a soy milk creamer... even though you say you hate soy... you may like this creamer as it's more velvety than any of the other milks you mentioned and specifically made for coffee.

eh.. I drink dark coffee... without sugar as well. :P
