yes! They tell me its dumb and that I am gonna die and stuff like that. And they also tell me that meat is an essential to your body and I am like No!

no i cant say that i have ever been made fun of.

(i'm in year 12)

i do hate it when people try to convince me that eating meat is natural.

just ignore them when they tease you, even though its frustrating its probably better than retaliating.

try and join the vegetarian association in your area and if there isnt one you can join mine :)

its just got some forums to talk about things etc and it doesn't matter if your not in western australia at all!

I am in 8th grade and all of my omnivorous friends never make fun of me for not eating meat. They support me and understand why i don't eat meat. Sometimes they even try my vegetarian food with me. For example i cooked up some veggie burgers and they all ate it and most of them like it. Being a vegetarian is nothing to be ashamed of and just try to ignore them or try to meet some vegetarian friends in your school. They have probably gone through what you are going through.

I don't get made fun of so much, people argue with me as though they can persuade me to change my lifestyle choice (even though it doesn't affect them at all) just because they are telling me I'm stupid-these people are actually my friends. It does get me down a bit, because I'm not expecting them to become vegetarian, but I'm forced to defend my choice all the time, because they continuously undermine my lifestyle decision. They say you need meat to have a balanced diet and then I ask them why there are health vegetarians then? They can't answer. And I know that red meat has a LOT of disadvantages, which I am happy to tell them of. But they still call me stupid and try and get me to eat meat with bad arguments. I will only respect their choice to eat meat if they respect my decision to be vegetarian. They only do this as a defence mechanism because they feel guilty about eating meat and feel because we have diffeent morals we must look down on them, it's very annoying, x.

No, not really.

Yeah sometimes.
I don't really care. They usualy just look at me like i'm crazy and then start listing all the strange things they've ever eaten. Only once has someone tried to convince me to eat meat, and thats because our school was on a camping trip and I hadn't eaten in a day and a half because it was all meat. It was more of a caring thing than a 'your crazy' thing.

i have never been made fun of for being a vegetarian....but just tell them you proud of it and act like you dont care..usually they will leave you alone then

Hey, I'm in high school and I've been a vegan since 6 grade. Yeah my friends and people i my class use to make fun of me but guess what if you let that get to you I'm pretty sure your going to have doubts in your mind. So you know what I would I would sit there and eat my fruit and salad and I would say "But I'm not the ones who's kill animals" and they would stop bothering me and you know soon they even started slowly one by one eating salads and changing they eating habits and I thought that was because of me. I even showed them what they were eating one day and they were so grossed out.

So don't mind them k.

my classmates dont.. but my sisters do! endeed they tell me i'll ended up turning into a bunny.. if i keep on eating so many veggies.. i say at least i'll be a pretty healthy bunny :)

im in 7th and i became a vegatarian i was afraid of peopls saying im over my head and stuff but i didnt really geat made fun of

You are so right! I'm vegetarian, and those dumb boys in my class alway make rude remarks (in not very nice tones of voice). A rather nice one is, "Hey, what the heck do eat for Thanksgiving if you can't have turkey?" And then they keep asking things like "If you were stuck in a forest and had nothing else to eat, would you kill a rabbit?" It's so annoying, and most of it is a lot worse. But, it's a small class and there's 2 other vegetarians in it, THANK GOD! It's not that I can't stand up for myself, it's just that it's sad that I'm the only one who's realized what's happening.
Hey, did you know that a kilogram of beef is responsible for MORE greenhouse gas emissions and other pollution than driving for 3 hours while leaving all the lights on back at home? It's true.
But good for you to be vegetarian, and good luck!

Yes! First they give me a blank stare, call me a hippie, then at lunch they wave pieces of pepperoni in my face! Makes me gag...

They just think I have some sort of problem, which is why i decided to keep my beliefs to myself and only tell people if they ask because people don't like vegetarians who are like rlly open about it because it makes them feel kind of bad about eating an animal

Rarely people make comments because Im in 9th grade and people are sort of maturing. I have usual stupid comments such as well what about if you go to subway what would ya get? Im like veggie delites are good...or people will be like well its good for you and im just like educate yourself on how much better it is for ya to be a vegeterian then come talk to me. It bugs me but if someone has a problem with me Ill be like f you ahole(in my head lol) and ignore them because its really none of their business.

people at school don't know, but people at work are always constantly like, oh well now you have to take proper vitamins, and you won'[t be able to get the proper proteins and blah blah blah, i ignore their ignorance

Kids tease each other about a variety of subjects. The jocks tease the nerds. The preps tease the goths. The meaters tease the vegers. But it's the nerds, goths and vegers that are the mature ones and that's why they get teased. Teasing is about acceptance from your peers. The teaser is looking for acceptance because they are insecure. You'll notice if it's just you and only one of them they probably don't say anything, but if there's more than one, they do. Their insecurity is driving them to attempt to improve their standing in their group.

Just be what you want to be and don't worry about what others think. That goes for all facets of life.

I'm a 7th grade vegan, was vegetarian in 6th grade. They don't make fun of me, but when I tell them I'm vegan/vegetarian they go "You're vegetarian???" and then these are the most common responses following that..:

"You need meat for protein!"
"You don't drink milk either? No wonder you're so short!"
*That's a fallacy, thinking that because I don't drink milk it MUST be the reason I'm shorter. I am Asian, and my family is naturally short. It's in genes. Even if I am taller, that just means that I would be consuming hormones given to cows.*

and other crap stuff. My friends or classmates has even ever bothered to ask why I am vegan.

Last year, my "friend" even swished her subway (meat) in front of me. I was disgusted and I thought it was so immature. I have better friends now that aren't that bad about it. I think they're more lenient 'bout it. I would love to have people support my vegan diet, though.

I have a project coming up, you have to say what you think is a real problem in the world and kinda write a persuasive essay on it. Next week, you have to share what topic you wanted to do and I'm doing it based on animal products. If I do get laughed at, I will stand up for myself. I will definitely make sure no one jokes about being vegan.

im only 12 and people in my school dont make fun of me they just ask a lot of questions and some of my really close friends say that im crazy in a joking manor but every body seems toquestion my ways but im proud to be a vegetarian

i became a vegetarian when i was in eighth grade and i think my family made more fun of me then. i remember a couple of goofballs making fun of me in highschool, but i played along and it never bothered me. then again i always enjoyed being unique.

btw, vegetarianism happens to kids with higher IQ's.
