The answer of this question is both yes and no...
Vegetarians are a very healthy lifestyle, but despite that there are a lot of vegetarian food that could make you fat... especially the high carb intake. If you eat rice or bread to much, you wont loose weight.. - but although you gain weight, you won't gain fat as much as when you consume meat.. So it's healthier this way...
I got a Balinese friend, he's a capoeria instructor and a stuntman, and he's a veggie all the way... He's got a very good physical condition, great muscle tone, great stamina and the whole shebang..
So you could loose weight or not, that depends on your healthy lifestyle... One thing for sure, you could lose a lot of body fat and bad cholesterol by adapting the way of the green..

Start exercising and dieting (healthy of course).
You can't expect to lose weight by being lazy.

Unless all you eat is celery and ice berg lettuce which is definitely not recommended no. You would just have to exercise and keep a healthy and balanced diet i didn't lose anything. It depends on how many calories and fat of any kind that you consume and if you eat more than you burn off.
yes, it is possible to lose some weight from becoming a vegetarian. Meat contains alot of fat, so eliminating that fat will cause weight loss to some degree. But that is a dangerous way to loss weight if you are not careful. Make sure you are still getting protein of some kind and if you don't already, start taking vitamins. Ultimately working out and eating healthy are the best ways to loose weight.
It depends on the cooking method, and if the food you take is high in calories and carbohidrate.
I gain weight when I started :P Becoz I like deep fried food, highly carbohidrate food, e.g. fried potatoes, and I like noodles a lot! :P

nahh. Especially if you have an active social life. Sometimes after going out my friends and I would go out to fast food restaurants and the only thing there for a vegetarian would be fries and deserts. Most salads had some sort of meat on it :( The same situation happens at many restaurants.

Yes you can lose weight from a vegetarian lifestyle, but it really depends what you put into your diet. I mean... lots of potato chips are vegetarian but you're not going to lose weight by living off them!
Keep your meals healthy & low fat and you should be fine. A little exercise won't hurt you though... in fact, a little exercise is highly recommended.
Vegetarian or vegan does NOT = low/no fat.
Vegetarian/vegan food still permits the overeating, oils, nuts/seeds, starch, tofu/soymilk (which does have fat in it), sugars found in a meat-based diet.
Good thing is though- no cholesterol.
You still need to watch what you eat, portion sizes, and maybe even exercise if you tend to gain weight, naturally (although you should exercise anyway- it would do nothing but a world of good for you).
No of course not! There are so many junk foods that are vegetarian. And even if you don't eat junk food, if all you eat is bread then you'll have a hard time losing weight. With a balanced diet, though, I've found it's easier to maintain a healthy weight on a vegetarian diet. Exercise is still essential though, but it doesn't need to be strenuous.

I am vegetarian for 8 years and last couple of years vegan.
My experience that vegetarian and vegan diets cannot help you to loose weight by themselves. (it is even possible to GAIN weight while going on vegetarian diet).
But if you really want to lose weight without "dieting" or exercising, try quitting all sugar, diary, white flour and white rice.
That will definitely help. That will amazingly help.
Or another thing that will also help tremendously is raw vegan diet (eating all foods raw).
Those things helped for me to lose weight and become more happy and cheerful person :)
One does not need to follow it whole life. Try out one-two month and see the results.
