what can i do to keep me healthy
Are your still eating eggs and dairy?
Try to make sure that you are eating veggies with every meal, try to stay away from meals that all pasta...throw in a salad.
Eat some nuts and fruit as snacks.
Learn to cook with beans. They are so healthy and SO good. Find some good recipes, like veggie bean chili and freeze some. Lentil soups....
Try to carry an apple, a granola bar, some nuts, anything really so you don't get caught starving somewhere....lots of people crave things when they are over hungry that they wouldn't normally....
Eat a good breakfast and hit the food groups, have a smoothie with whole wheat toast and peanut butter and jam.
Remember, make fun, find recipes you like, if this becomes a chore...and keep doing research on vegetarianism... :)
If and when people throw you negative comments, the best come backs are always educated ones...
Way to Go, Veg life rocks!
Eat pulses & have lot of milk...that'll help you to have ur portion of proteins dat u used 2 get frm meat...
I am also a vegetarian.....
have plenty of sex
You need protein still, which you can get from soy and other nuts. You also need to start eating more vegetables, as well as different vegetable combinations, in order to get your nutrients. Your best bet is to start off with some Gardenburger brand food (in the frozen food section of your grocery store) as a meat substitute, in order to get your protein. In the end, it really does depend on your tastes. Some people don't like soy, and get their protein from other things, such as peanut butter and eggs.
awesome... well vitamins are essentail... if you can stand it dont swallow melt them in your mouth..... to test if they will be absorbed by your system put them in a glass of vinegar overnight..... nuts, protein enriched soy milk.... awesome life choice!!!
good luck
I know most vegetarians have issues with becoming anemic b/c they are not eating meat and not eating the proper replacements. When going vegetarian you have to make sure to get the proper supplements. Also, a few of my friends who went vegetarian went on a bread and cheese diet LOL and gained a great deal of weight.
Eat a balanced, varied diet. Choose more whole foods than processed foods.
"The New Becoming Vegetarian" by Brenda Davis and Vesanto Melina is excellent coverage of vegetarian nutrition.
Get a balanced diet high in Fresh(raw) Fruits, Veggies, Nuts, Seeds & cooked Whole Grains. Skip the junk food, just because it is made from organic products, chips, cookies, ice creams, pies, cakes etc. are still only meant to be a every now & then treat.
Try some things like Fresh made Juice & Green Smoothies http://www.emaxhealth.com/14/1182.html
Welcome ~ I hope your new path will be a happy healthy one.
Slainté (to your health)
Make sure you get enough protein by eating plenty of beans ans soy beans. Replace normal milk with soy milk if you like (its much less heavy on the stomach anyway). Eat alot of green vegetables for the iron (spinach especially good) and if you eat fish, have a fair amount of that aswell. If you become vegetarian, you need to replace your meats with even more vegetables so dont expect to get away with not eating enough veggier because you will soon notice that you get tired faster because you dont get enough energy. Eat lots of fruit aswell and if youre not vegan eat cheese and eggs (especially eggs). I wish you lots of luck with your new lifestyle, and im glad you made that choice! x
To produce a cell is not an easy process for the human body. Being a parent to all cells, a human being is supposed to be responsible for all of them. The human body is unable to generate all substances necessary for the production of cells. It has only 12 or 20 protein amino acids required for the process. The remaining chemicals are supposed to be delivered with food. Each and every human cell is supposed to be supplied with first class animal protein.
Some may say that there is enough protein in vegetables (beans, for example) True, but recent studies show that vegetable protein can be digested only with the help of its animal analogue.
The human body has its own preferences, by the way. Experts proved that our body requires and assimilates the following substances as construction materials:
Egg white – 100%
Soured milk – 90%
Fresh milk – 83%
Beef – 76%
Cottage cheese – 75%
Compare this data with that concerning vegetable protein:
Wheat bread – 52%
This is the main reason why dietitians recommend to consume 60 percent of animal protein and 40 percent of vegetable analogue from the daily ration.
No vitamins and mineral substances are of any use if our organism does not receive animal protein. Like vegetable protein, they can not be digested without animal protein.
Vegetarians, especially those of advanced age, usually face numerous health problems that are mainly caused with the shortage of animal protein. After two months of no-meat diet, the quantity of protein in the cardiac muscle decreases four times, which triggers the development of heart failure. The work of all other organs worsens soon after. A vegetarian man or woman may find themselves on the brink of dystrophy.
First signs of dystrophy are not that evident and burdensome, but the resulting effect may lead to lamentable consequences. Have you ever seen starving African children on TV?
