I heard you need meat so is being a vegan really?!

Question: safe just curious

Answers: safe just curious

yep it's safe as long as you're getting protein from other sources such as soy products, tofu and nuts. I asked my doctor about this and she says that eating too much protein is bad for you, bad for your kidneys.
I found this link to determine how much protein you need (everyone's needs are different).

no you don't need meat.

it's just a cultural thing.

i bet an asian would say that you need rice to survive
and someone from italy would not believe it possible to live without cheese.

but you can live without any of these three.

you heard wrong

You dont need meat
You need protein
And you can get it from other things than meat.

You don't need meat you need protein. If you don't want to eat meat there are several alternatives like peanuts, tofu and soy beans

Meat provides protien. If you eat enough protien from other foods (such as nuts) It could be safe. But vegans don't eat animal products in general (dairy, meat ect...) so it can be very dangerous if you don't manage your diet correctly.

well im fine and ive lived my entire life without meat.
14 years old now :)

You don't need meat, you need the vitamins and protein you get from meat. To be a vegetarian, you need to have something called an "alternate protein source". Before making such a dramatic change in diet i would consult your doctor. He/she may try to talk you out of it (i know i wouldn't suggest a vegan diet) but if you are firm in your decision, he or she will be able to give you some good tips on doing it in a healthy way.

People do not need meat. If that were true, the population of India would be significantly smaller than it is today; I know Indians whose families have been vegetarian for 100s of years.

Being a vegan is safe. If you're eating a varied, balanced vegan diet it's safer than eating meat. We have fewer heart attacks and strokes, lower cholesterol and blood pressure, have lower instance of obesity and are more likely to maintain a healthy body weight, have less diabetes, less kidney disease, lower cancer rates.

I haven't eaten meat in about 12 years and I'm still here. What makes you think that you or anyone else NEEDS meat?

Yes it's even better if you know what you are doing.

Well, there are plenty vegans walking about perfectly healthily, so does that not answer your question!? lol

Unless you're a cat or some other carnivorous beast, no, you don't need meat. And if you are a cat, you're pretty amazing, typing on a keyboard like that.

What you do need is a variety of foods, and there are plenty of wonderful things to eat that don't involve the exploitation of an animal. If you're worried about protein, stop. As long as you get enough calories, and as long as they aren't all junk food, you will surely get enough protein. Even vegans get more protein than they need.

People don't need meat. They do need protein, which is found in varying amounts in everything you eat. It really is not that difficult to meet protein needs without meat.

Where did you hear that?

From a witch doctor?

Whoever told you that is most likely still in middle school or elementary school.

No one needs to consume rotting flesh to survive, that's just..... unintelligent.

I'm veg, been one for three years and i'm healthier than ever.
Yes, I do go to the doctor and guess what? No problems :)

a healthy vegan diet is POSSIBLE just difficult to manage. that is why so many vegans look so thin pale and ill (at least all the ones i have met do) consult a nutritionist or dietician
