Coke etc use highly processed sugars, these are now likely refined without bone char but its impossbile to say without getting confirmation from the manufacturuers.

Cokecola will not tell you, they do not say any of thier drinks a veggie or vegan.

I have it in writing that all of Tate and Lyles sugars are suitabel vegetarians and "contain no animal by-products" I don't know if that is good enough to meet your vegan criteria - they didn't specifically say "vegan", but i didn't ask either.

"canadian" says peta2 identifies coke as vegan, if they do, i can't find it so a specidic link would help please.

If it was vegan, i'm sure peta2 would drop it into this list:

HFCS doesn't have bone char, but it's not something you want to be consuming with any regularity, as it screws up your metabolism. And you darn sure don't want to be consuming aspartame!

Many candies geared towards vegans will say "evaporated cane juice" or some other indication that the sugar is not bone-char processed. With conventional foods, the best way to find out is to write the company. Or just not worry about it too much and make sure when you buy sugar for your own use, it's turbinado (raw) sugar, evaporated cane juice, rapadura, Sucanat, or beet sugar. Those are all NOT processed through bone char.

My ex made it a point to contact companies - and he NEVER had one to answer how the sugar was processed and if it was indeed vegetarian/vegan.

Corn syrup wouldn't - as it is processed in a totally different way.

Too much sugar - no matter how it is processed and where it comes from - isn't good for anyone.

Just remember - MODERATION!

No, coke and other commercial sodas do not use organic sugar, so YES, that sugar is filtered with char. High fructose corn syrup is another nasty-its made from genetically modified corn, which has been spliced with the DNA of other plants, insects, and other unsavory things-its no longer a natural food. Unless a product is SPECIFICALLY labeled that it contains raw, organic sugar, then you can be sure that it has gone through the char process. By the way, char is also what is used in fish aquariums.

Peta2 classifies Coke as vegan...

If you are worried about things that aren't actually in your food (i.e., bone char), there are things actually in the Coke that you want to avoid.

Soda leaches the calcium out of your bones regardless of whether it is vegan or not.
