Do you consider someone who does not eat meat, but eats fish, a vegitarian?!
Pescetarian - No animal consumption, with the exception of fish.
Pollotarian - No animal, with exception of poultry / fowl.
Ovo vegetarian - No animal, but eggs are OK.
Lacto vegetarian - No animal, but dairy (milk, cheese) is OK.
Vegan - No animal, dairy, eggs, NOTHING!
Answers: There are many different ways to live as a vegetarian ...

no fish are still animals and are therefore still meat
If you go by the def. of the word found within the dictionary - a person that eats fish would not be considered to be a vegetarian.
Some will disagree - but that is indeed what the dictionary indicates.
No, because they still eat meat
No. If they eat flesh of any animal, they are not vegetarians.
No, because a fish is still an animal, therefore if they eat that animal...they are eating flesh.
no! vegetarians will not eat any kind of meat from animals - fish included.
Someone who eats fish is not a vegetarian. The dictionary defines a vegetarian as a person who does not eat or does not believe in eating meat, fish, fowl, or, in some cases, any food derived from animals, as eggs or cheese, but subsists on vegetables, fruits, nuts, grain, etc.(1)
Some people who eat fish call themselves pescatarians; however, this is at most, a form of an omnivore. Fish is meat, and no vegetarian eats meat. The definition is vegetarianism has been in place for a long time, it is only recently where people have been trying to change it to fit their taste buds.
A fish is not a vegetable.
So... no.
IMHO, there is no such thing as a "pesco-vegetarian." A fish is an animal, you eat an animal, you're eating meat. If a pesco-vegetarian is a vegetarian, then so is someone who goes and gets a big mac a few times a week.
No way! A fish eater who calls themselves a vegetarian is a liar, faker, poser... whatever you want to call them. Either way, they are NOT a vegetarian.
If you're eating something that's not from a plant, you're not a vegetarian. My sister liked to say that she was mostly vegetarian. You either are or you are not. Kinda like pregnancy...lol
PS According to Duke and his ethics, if you catch a fish in the wild it's still veg. Sooooo, if I catch a wild boar am I still vegetarian if I eat it?!
No, if someone is eating meat of any kind, that person cannot by definition be a vegetarian.
I think that if a person is more concerned with what they are called, (i.e. vegetarian, vegan, etc.) than why or why not they are eating animal products, they need to do some soul searching. I eat what makes me feel healthy, and that doesn't conflict with my ethics. At this point in my life, I've decided to eat no red meat, poultry, eggs, or dairy for both health, and ethical reasons. Once I am in the position to raise my own chickens for eggs, I will go back to eggs. Occasionally, I enjoy some sushi--I am sure that soon, I will learn enough about the unethical practices of farmed fish to make them unpalatable to me as well. But for now, knowing how much everyday citizens can help animal cruelty from factory farming, and the environment (global warming is greatly increased by meat production...) with just 1 day a week of vegetarianism...I feel grateful for anyone who educates themselves, and cuts down. Alienating people who are curious by not letting them in the "club" of vegetarianism doesn't benefit anyone. Every little bit helps, and knowledge is power. I say, make your own choices about what you eat, regardless of what you are called. :)
No, vegetarians do not eat animals.
Cows, pigs, chickens, fish, shrimp, clams, worms and ants are all animals.
They would be a Pescetarian, not Vegetarian.
There is no law for labeling what you are? Vegetarian can eat anything but meat, however, some vegeterian eat dairy and fish.
There is another label for non meat eaters which is VEGAN that they do not eat anything but vegetables and grains
no, personally i think that a vegitarrian dosent eat meat - if you eat meat which includes fish, then you are not a vegitarian or as ignorants call it semi - vegitarian.
nope. fish is still meat.. just because it's not red meat, or chicken or pork doesn't mean it's not meat. fish are creatures.
oh, and to those very smart (::sarcasm::) ones who answered and said "semi-vegetarians" eat fish... are you serious? that's not a real term, how can someone be 'semi' vegetarian, that just means you're an omnivore so what's the point of calling them that? either you are a vegetarian or you aren't. you want to eat fish but exclude other meats that's fine but please don't label yourself something you aren't.
I wouldnt , but every little helps!
Nope, that's a meat eater.
No true vegetarian eat's fish, it's meat.
No, they are pescatarian, not vegetarian.
No. Real vegetarians don't eat any kind of animal.
I became vegetarian because of compassion for animals; and fish are animals.
My wife is Hindu. Not all Hindus are vegetarian, but fish is never considered vegetarian. The temple always serves a meal after the religious services; the meal never includes red meat, poultry, fish, seafood or eggs.
Try going to a Hare Krishna restaurant and see if they have fish on the menu. They don't.
People who say they are "vegetarians who eat fish" either don't understand what vegetarianism means or they want to cause confusion for some reason.
Absolutely not. Fish are members of the animal kingdom; it is a biological fact. Vegetarians don't eat dead animals; it's the definition of the word.
I really don't see where the confusion lies. People who eat any type of dead animals are simply not vegetarian. They may be eating a healthy diet, they are certainly reducing animal suffering by not eating terrestrial animals, but they are not vegetarian. It's silly to think that killing some animals for food is different from killing other animals for food.
no because fish is still a meat
Yes. They would be called a pescetarian.
According to the practice of ethics, for those who are veg. based of ethics, Fish is allowed provided it was caught in the wild, or from what is known as the natural reserve. Those from a farm would break the veg. ethics...
That said I personally did not switch due to ethics, and do not eat fish because it is an animal protein... so if you switched for a reason other than ethics, you should consider this fact, MEAT IS MEAT.
The point is that Fish being vegetarian depends on your reasoning for being a veg. the kind of fish and how it was caught, and why you want to eat that fish.
Semi Vegetarian --> yes
Vegetarian --> Nope. ^-^
Coz the fish needs to be dead so u can it eat. It will be more cruel if you eat it alive!! :P
