I have just become a vegetarian, now 2 weeks and am now starting to get headaches any suggestions?!

Question: i still consume dairy and eat no meat, chicken or fish.
i eat eggs and vege cheese. i snack constantly and have increased my water intake to 1.5litres per/day.
i eat a broad range of veges, nuts and fruits.

is it my iron levels or is my body adjusting.

energy levels and concentration seem to be effected also.

It may have something to do with detoxing.

When you give up certain unhealthy substances – dairy, meat, sugar etc…your body starts to detox, may last from a few days to a few weeks. May include headaches, energy levels, concentration etc...

Then again, if you have stated to drink or eat extra quantities of substances that you haven’t in the past (i.e.) drinking more coffee than normal or eating more chocolate than normal – you can also get headaches.

Or if you wear glasses, your eyesight may need checking, as you may need stronger ones.

It could be any number of reasons.

As Krister said, it is not possible to develop a deficiency in two weeks. However, maybe you were lacking in something before you turned vegetarian. I suggest geing a blood test done with a naturopath, so you can find out what vitamins and minerals you are low on, so you can adjust your diet / vitamin intake accordingly.

Please Note:

Veggies do NOT make a person weak. You do NOT need to consume meat for protein. Protein can be found in an abundance of natural vegetarian/vegan produce.

Protein deficiency is extremely rare in the Western world (in fact, the Western world consumes far too much) Protein deficiency only really occurs were people are literally starving to death (i.e.) famines in Africa

For more help, I suggest joining the vegetarian/vegan society in your area. Most societies produce a monthly or quarterly magazine, with lots of helpful hints and tips.

.

See a Doctor, it does not sound good.

it could be a reaction to msg

Relax, drink some green tea. You'll be fine.

Unless you have started to eat more junk food or sodium, I don't think that anything else could start giving you headaches.

It's not possible to develop a deficiency in two weeks.

I don't think a vegetarian diet will cause any sudden headaches like this.

Could you be putting yourself under undue stress to stay veggie ?

Assuming all you have done is remove meat, fish, poultry and slaughter by-prodcuts from your diet, and keep up a good balance of veggies, fruit, cereal dairy, Its not likely to be food intake thats caused your headaches.

Your body may not get used to a sudden stop.

It would be great if you can share out what did u eat previously (non-vege), and what do u eat now (vegetarian), in each meal. Breakfast, lunch, dinner.

By comparing your meal that you take before and after each meal helps you to analyze better.

e.g. if you take meat during lunch previously, you may have to consume some food with egg, or cheese during lunch as a replacement, and not just go straightly to plain salads. Which during lunch your stomach may produce more acid as usual to prepare for the meat digestion.

Anyhow, the best way is still going to doctor and nutritionist for consultation.

It has Nothing to do with your "Iron" levels. You are detoxing, drink plenty of fluids: Water, fresh made Juices etc. Take something for the pain. It will pass quickly. Check to make sure you are getting enough calories, sometimes that is the culprit.
Snacking does not take the place of eatting balanced meals either.
Flip side it could be a bug, being a Veggie or Vegan does not let us off from the things going around completely.
Slainté (to your health)

start eating meat again

you're probably still thinking about meat and your brain is probably used to eating it.
give up on being a vegetarian and start eating meat if you wanna save yourself.
if it still gives you headaches go to a doctor immediatly.

veges really makes a person weak.... you eat at least a little a servings of meat.....
