Do you realise I am playing Devils Advocate?!

Question: None of my questions were meant to cause offence but I seem to have hit many raw nerves every time I ask a question. I was really interested to see if the image of the "gentle, understanding vegan" lived up to it's name but apart from a handful of people most here have just shown aminosity or called me a troll. Believe it or not it was never my intention to swear or be rude but when your questions get met with loads of defensive remarks and people judging my education etc etc it has brought the worst out in me.
I apologise to all those I offended.
Sorry my questions were too hard hitting or "weird"

I didn't answer your previous questions because though I had a good answer, your questions came off as abusive and mean... I sensed animosity and a hatred towards vegans so I stayed away.

I'm non confrontational and I don't really like to put myself out there to be verbally whipped around by someone that hates me just because of one small aspect of my entire being - the fact that I live a vegan lifestyle to the best of my abilities.

I honestly just felt that you already had judged me and hated me just because I am vegan (your words, if I am right, were that vegans are full of "bull s-word" and "clownshoes"). Actually, "clown shoes" is really funny, to be honest with you, I did laugh and I think I'll recycle the insult next time I meet someone that really is obtuse and annoying.

If your questions were serious in nature, I'll give you the brief response: I do avoid all the ingredients and substances that are non-vegan to the best of my abilities, but I concede to you - you are absolutely right, it is impossible to live a 100% vegan life and one would be completely nuts to try to (or drive themselves nuts to do so). Also I distinguish between unnecessary animal deaths and animal exploitation versus natural animal deaths (like if a fly flies into a light bulb I have on my porch and burns itself, or if a moth gets stuck in the grill of my car, or if I crush a dust mite on my skin... all these little scenarios that have been asked here repeatedly).

If you are interested and are genuine I answered a few questions a while back regarding my stance on animal deaths, what is natural versus unnatural, our direct relationship with the world and environment as consequence of our diets, etc:

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;...

Also I just wanted to add that I in no way suggest that I represent the views of all vegans, these are just my thoughts and views... I refuse to and really can't speak for millions of people worldwide. People's motives to be vegan differ, and how people approach a vegan lifestyle differs, as well as how far they go to be vegan.

I still feel reproachful opening up because I have a feeling I'll be called a clown shoe or whatnot... oh well. Then I've succeeded in only fueling your preconceived notions and/or I might have alleviated them. :) Take care.

now you have adopted the "i didn't mean to cause offence" tactic used by all the other trolls

You are a cliche - a troll clone

We don't believe you.

Your reputation is set, you may as well abandon your account

When you say "it was never my intention to swear or be rude " how do you explain the 2 references to "hypocrites" in your second question BEFORE anyone posted any comments to you.

EDIT: I'm not a vegan, what are you on about ?

EDIT2:

This is what a genuine question looks like. Look at the complete lack of abuse in the answers.

See ? we are positive when met with a positive question

There is no need to tell me about the dairy industry, if you were genuinely interested in the answers you would have read my answer to your first dairy question.

You either don't know the definition of hypocrite, or you don't know the definition of a vegetarian.

If you feel the definition of a vegetarian is wrong, say so, thats a different thing to hypocrisy.

People need to read your ANSWERS as well as your supposedly "devils advocate" questions. You are an abusive troll. To claim otherwise is delusional.

Peaches,

I wil retract my growth hormone statements right after see suppliers take them off the ingrdients list stapled to the feed sacks. They are not "chemicals" as you call them, look for "natural animal based growth enhancers" and tell me what source they are from. Hormones extracted via centrifuge, i dont know the science, i'm not a scientist. I'm not even saying they are bad, but i am definately saying they are in the feed.

What was banned was direct filtered bovine hormones to go into cattle feed.

Read your "Farming Link" if you are in the industry

I'm more than happy to quote facts and articles.

try reading the DEFRA report on Protien requirements for livestock from 2007. If you are in dairy, i'm sure that report will be in your library. Its in mine

It discusses the production rate changes in using the LEGAL growth hormone "bovine somatotrophin" for lactating dairy cows

YOUR QUESTIONS WERE NOT Genuine!

See people are not defensive because of the question, its the tone of your question. You have an agenda. The agenda was to make people defensive, which is not good!

If you want peace, try being a good example.

This is a lie. Devil's advocates don't start calling people freaks to provoke a response. They use intelligent and reasoned debate.

I suppose you might have gone for the former due to the demands of the latter.

You are trying to have it both ways - both apologising and yet defending your questions in the same statement. Yahoo!Answers is a society, with certain rules, and those that respect others learn to play by them. Would you be so quick to antagonise people in the flesh? I have just read your questions - together with the statements you keep adding to them - and they do you no favors at all. Suggest you come back with more questions only when you've learned to grow and mature a little as a human being.

Glad to hear your unbiased opinion has led to stereotypes and generalizations of all vegans, this must be an attributed towards your entanglement with the Dark Force of Black Magic.
Other adjectives to describe your questions: annoying, unsubstantiated, non-contribution.
Thanks for taking time away from all of us.

No. It seems more like you're playing Immature Antagonist:

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;...

It would seem your questions advocate hate... so I guess you are advocating the "devil" well.

Your questions were meant to cause offense, there can be no other reasoning for that sort of hate speech. Just because you think vegans should be gentle and understanding does not mean you can walk all over them. There is a line... you have crossed it.

Your questions weren't hard hitting or weird, they were offensive rants. If you believe veganism is flawed, there are better ways to express yourself... without calling people "f***ing clownshoes" would be preferable.

I feel sorry for you and I hope you make an effort to change.

I think it's hilarious, you've really tweaked off a lot of people.

I think health is important, I also think cruelty to animals is horrible.

This, however, is only an internet forum. If we're eating right and caring, etc, blah blah blah like Mack said then yeah, I agree it is pretty silly to let your blood pressure go through the roof over an anonymous person's questions and comments. Very silly!

I got 3 thumbs down on the winshield Q, and some guy emailed me privately who (I think Michael H actually), has it set up to not receive a return email from me. Goofiness, IMO.

The thing is that MACK IS RIGHT about a lot of things he says! The dairy industry is horribly cruel, and vegetarians who consume typical factory farm style dairy are supporting cruelty, just as sure as driving into a moth with your car will splatter it on your windshield. It's the truth. if you can't deal with it, change your habits, give up dairy & driving, or take a PROZAC.

Off to eat my awesome salad!

No, really! Seriously! I am! It's all organic, too!

No. I didn't notice. Instead of playing Devil's Advocate why don't you go back to playing Autoerotic Eye Assassin?

Are you gay guy? Oops I mean nice guy?

Peaches---a new ID to defend this other new ID.

Ah, I'm sorry. Did we hurt your feelings?

I think that you were looking for vegan push-overs.

Offending trolls is just an insignificant consequence of speaking the truth.

===============

Peaches - Your ID was created today. Any statements that you make are irrelevant and nowhere near trustworthy.

"Maybe they should just all do a mass suicide, that would free up the planet a bit- and less lentil farts to deal with as well.
how much methane does a veggie/vegan produce?"

"So many wear plastic shoes, made from crude oil, made from dinosaurs- more fu*king hypocrites.

I can smell the BULLSHIT fom here spouting forth from the vegan's pieholes!"

"Let's face it, vegans are freaks, they're not normal people, living normal lives."

LMAO, you are quite the f*cking joke, aren't you? If you are 35, what is the name of the assisted living facility which you reside in?

=========================

"Morally Superior? the very fact you wrote that makes you arrogant and boastful- not a nice trait I'm afraid!"

OMFG, You thought that Ashley V is really a vegan person?
Ashley V is a man that isn't even vegetarian.

No offense, but you are a f*cking retard(in the shameful sense).

No, you are not playing devil's advocate, you're purposely trying to offend. Your original questions start off as devil's advocate-type questions, but the remarks you add later clearly point out your true agenda. In the question about whether we worry about driving cars, you added additional remarks using foul and abusive language and suggesting that we commit mass suicide (I reported that question, byt the way, and am surprised that with the use of the f-word, it's been allowed to stay up.)

Your questions are not "too hard hitting." That's giving yourself an awful lot of credit for original thought. Do you honestly think that we are not aware that there are lists available of animal ingredients - especially the ludicrous one you posted. I'm supposed to be shocked at the sudden revelation of what suede is? Do you honestly think that you're the first one to come here and challenge our ethics by pointing out that our mere existence threatens the lives of insects? What I'd like all of you trolls (yes, that includes you, whether or not you profess to have meant no offense) to do is ask yourself one question: why is it so important for you to challenge someone else's ethical decision? Could it be perhaps that you're not quite comfortable with your own?

Most of the answers you got weren't defensive; the truth is you were not expecting articulate (or as you put it, articulated) and intelligent answers, and you choose to call those who disagreed with you 'defensive'.

You didn't 'hit a raw nerve', you made absurd generalisations about vegans, and a number of clever and well-informed people answered you.

Your questions have not been neutral, they have been aggressive and full of animosity; you really shouldn't whine when people reply in kind.

It was YOU who raised the subject of education; when you call a whole group of people uneducated in a post with errors in basic spelling and grammar, of course people are going to take the p*ss. When you followed this by defensively boasting that you have 5 A levels and a degree (wow!) the p*ss-taking got worse. Did you really think nobody else on here was going to have been educated to the same level as you?

The answer you chose as 'best' for your education question did not even pretend to answer it, it just pandered to your prejudices.

I was not in the least offended by your questions; I was amused at your assumption that nobody would be able to answer such 'intelligent' questions, a little irritated and eventually bored. They weren't 'hard-hitting', they were all things we've heard on here before and were frankly silly.

When challenged you resorted to abuse. I hope this question means this is an end to it

Edit** I see your chosen 'best answer' to your 'bloodthirsty' question was another that didn't pretend to answer the question in any way. You didn't want answers from vegans, you just wanted rants that coincided with your existing prejudices.

Ah, and like those Buddhist monks that don't want to hurt even bacteria. The sad fact is, you can't do anything without hurting something else, but at least you can take a large part of everyday suffering off of your shoulders by not eating meat (and dairy, go vegan! haha).

Michael

I have just spent a good while reading your replies to Mack's questions, and being within the dairy industry myself, I can honestly agree with Mack, you really do need someone to educate you on the goings on within dairy.

I cannot believe that someone who *claims* to have regular contact within this industry would then go on to inform people that growth hormones are routinely used in feeds for dairy cattle. Hello ! come out of your shell, if, as you claim, you were On the diary vibe, you would instead be informing people that the use of these chemicals in feeds for dairy herds is banned, no longer continues, IS NOT ALLOWED.

In future, before you go telling consumers willy nilly what a certain food stuff contains, I suggest you firstly do your homework before you open your mouth & let your belly rumble, giving dairy farmers a bad name within the consumers will not be looked upon to kindly.

*********

Feed Labels I cannot check Michael since we are organic & as such we do not allow the use of any growth related hormone, antibiotic or super duper anything in what we feed any of our animals.

Thus.

I've had to resort to emailing the manufactures of the main dairy feeds to request a chemical breakdown of the contents of said feeds & products.
