Do you find vegetarians to be snobs?!

Question: Sometimes I feel like they think they are better than other people. Then when they meat another vegetarian they always ask, "oh, well how long have you been a vegetarian".

Anyway, I don't eat meat but I hate veggie snobs! It's like a holy roller who forces their beliefs on others. I also believe in a higher power but can't stand listening to people judge. Do you find this common in vegetarians?

AME. I hear you. I to am a vegetarian and have come to the same conclusion that you have. Among the vegtetarian community, there are certainly more uptight snobs than that of the population as a whole. Many VEGANS in particular, are some of the most over sensitive, overbearing, arrogant, stuck up snobs that you will ever meet. Other than that, most vegans are just the life of the party - NOT. Being a vegan is not a religion, yet many vegans demand that you respect it as much, while at the same time they refuse to respect the views of others. An arrogant lot they are indeed.

You 2 reek of insecurity, and that comes from a meater. Report It

my sister is one and it can get annoying when she makes that irritating gagging face when we eat meat!

There are stupid people everywhere. Get over it.

Yes, some of them are very snobby. I don't eat a lot of meat myself, but I feel like they're really judging me if I have a chicken breast. I don't judge them for not eating meat, so I don't know how they think they're entitled to judge me. I once made some pico de gallo for this party, and a girl came up to me and asked "what's in that? I'm vegan." I said, "It's pico de gallo, it's fine." She said, "What's in it? Do you know what vegan means?" As if I was so stupid. She's the stupid one, not knowing what pico de gallo is. Some vegan.

no i think there realllllllyyyyy nice nicer than meat eaters lol

    Excuse me?
    Stereotypes, much?
I've never tried to convince anyone to eat meat, it's my own choice. I usually don't tell people I'm a vegetarian because then they try to get /me/ to eat meat, or look at me like I'm crazy! I have no problem with people eating meat, I just prefer not to. I've never met a vegitarian who tries to convince other people not to eat meat. Some people find it gross to see people eating an animal, it's not really there fault. Right now some of you are calling us stupid for not eating meat! So don't expect vegetarians to say eating meat is fine if you think being a vegetarian/vegan is weird/crazy/stupid.

erm,, no I think this is your own problem. nothing to do with me!

    Troll.

I know what you mean, i am a veggie and have been for sometime, my husband eats meat and that is fine with me. I would never judge anyone, i will cook meals for both of us, i just don't like touching meat, but i have never liked the feel for meat even before i was a veggie so thats not new.

There are snobs everywhere, no matter their status, race, creed, diet, ethnicity, religion and so on and so forth. The veggies I have met are very passive for the most part. The ones on here that act like fanatical lunatics are made up anyways, so they don't count.

WWWWOOOOWWWW!!! I can't believe what people are saying! I too do not tell people I am a vegetarian unless I have to. My mother and her boyfriend practically disowned me! They are in the livestock business and own their own stock yards. A lot of people think it's funny to shove meat in my face or try to trick me into eating meat! They also make me feel like a burden. And when it comes to vegans, it doesn't mean that they only it vegetables! How can you consider them "crazy" when they more self control than you or I could ever have??? It doesn't matter if you are a vegetarian, there are good people and there are bad people, whether they eat meat or not. I don't try to force my ways on anyone. I have 3 roommates who all eat meat. If they ask about the health benefits or any else about my vegetarian diet, I will give them the info. I have never met a vegetarian who was a snob. Plus, if I did think I was better than other people for not eating meat, I would never express that to anyone... it is rude.

some of them are. reminds me of the bleedin' Pharisees...

That's because they have always been snobs, not because they are vegetarian.

Being vegetarian just gave them an even bigger excuse to be a snob.

    yes i agree with you.
just looking at this forum, i see a lot of vegetarains/ vegans bashing on others who dont believe in the same thing. Now that of course doesnt mean that all of us are like that, but some are. and the same goes for some omnivores who just think that eating meat is a MUST if you want to live.

Now with all this being said, i do get extremely frustrated when others try to challenge my beliefes with their dogmatic comments, so i really know how it feels to be a heretic for not eating meat or any animal products.

    -good luck out there.

u say u dont like judging well ha u just did because not all veggies are like that i know some are but just try to ignore it OK

I don't think asking someone how long they've been vegetarian is necessarily being snobbish... it's just showing interest in another person and trying to keep the conversation going. For example - If someone says they've been vegetarian for a few weeks, then I could ask how they're doing with the transition so far. If they've been vegetarian for 20 years, I would ask what it was like to be a vegetarian back in those days.

I agree that people shouldn't have a holier-than-thou attitude or give monologues on vegetarianism. The majority of the vegetarians and vegans I know are doing it because they're passionate about animal rights issues and not because they need to feel superior somehow.

I find your question a bit ironic. You seem to be the one acting judgmental and snobby. You are judging people who have a strong belief in their vegetarianism and, god forbid, ask another vegetarian how long they have been one. This seems as if you are the one that believes the way you practice vegetarianism to be the correct and proper way. Are you not the one, at this moment, who is trying to force their beliefs(that vegetarians should be closed mouthed about their beliefs, even to the point where we should even mention how long we have held our beliefs)?

I do not find it common for vegetarians to be judgmental. Yes, there are some people that may be very forward with their beliefs, but these people are not limited to vegetarians only. I find judgmental people everywhere. Who is judgmental is really based on the situation at hand. I don't go around telling everyone I'm vegetarian or trying to convert the masses, but if people challenge my morals I will speak up. I don't belive that I have any less rights to defend or speak about my life just because a few overly sensative people may see this as preaching, being judgental, ect.

Do you find black/white/hispanic people to be snobs?
Do you find gays/bisexuals/heterosexuals to be snobs?
Do you find Christians/Jews to be snobs?

You really should not ask a rude question like that.

I find some vegetarians are pretty annoying and think they are so good for not eating the poor wee animals. But try meeting a vegan, they not only don't eat meat but nothing that comes from an animal this includes no milk, eggs, wearing leather shoes etc. They are much worse than vegetarians especially if you have one over for tea. Vegetables is about the only thing they can eat. You can't serve a pasta if it was made with eggs, or any chicken or meat! Its crazy!
