I think it depends on where your Grandma is going??

You have 2 choices. Miss the dinner because of work and hope the family understands or disobey your boss and risk your employment.

I'd talk to your family about it. See how they'd feel. I'm hoping "farewell" doesn't mean that she passed on. Maybe you can visit her at another time.

1) why did he refuse you, are you still going to be working on a project and therefore your attendance is a requirement?
2) where is your grandmother going? It is possible to miss this dinner, might not be ideal but sometimes you have to sacrifice things for the greater good.
3) who would pay for the flight change? Your manager (ie. work)? Obviously they don't want to eat that cost
4) how long in advance did you know of this going away party and why didn't you make appropriate arrangements ahead of time?

Your options are to miss the dinner, ask your manager if you can pay for your own flight home at an earlier time or quit your job immediately so you can be at home for the dinner.

Your options?
Go and ask this in the 'Family and relationships' category.
We really couldn't g.a.f.

Not many buckaroo, I don't think your vegan diet will save you now.

ask your grandmother to call
your manager, sweet talk him and even use tears and invite the manager too? ask your family to keep the party going til you get home?

quit- see gramma and take some veggies- that's why this is in Vegetarian section right?

A farewell dinner party for your grandmother? Nevermind.
You can either look for a new job or go where your job demands. Why did you not arrange time off sooner than this? Sorry, I don't know what to tell you.
