Gherkins and health ?!

Question: Odd Q I know

Oddly enough I have no idea if pickled Gherkins are good or bad for me. I have found somewhere that sells them very cheap- so I have been eating tons, basically instead of snack food.

but are they even vaguely healthy ?

I am a former chef and depending on where you live, the gherkins in the UK and Europe ar e more a sour pickle in vinegar like the cornichons from France, here in North America they are a neon green sweet/sour type pickle, pickles in general are fine in moderation, it is just the salt or sugar in the NA that can be harsh to your system, I used to like the sour euro ones for remoulade sauce or in salad dressings, here in Canada, we only got them at Xmas or when my mother made sandwichs for a bridal shower, she use to roll them in bread with cream cheese for finger sandwiches and we got the leftovers.

I would just say they can be addictive, but in moderation they are fine.

They can have lots of salt and sugar, depending on the kinds you buy. There is virtually no food value, no fat tho. I would say that you need to wash out your mouth after eatting many of them and often because the vinegar is harsh to teeth....Mr. Dentist will not like the enamel dissolved on your pearlies.

Well I wouldn't recommend living off them. Probably numb your taste buds for a day or two if you get to carried away with em'. Salty to say the least.

I got a little gherkin for you baby. Actually, it is pretty big being that I live on a flexatarian diet and all.
