Tofu Marinades?!
Answers: Anyone got any good marinades for tofu? Thank you in advance!
I got this recipe from a different question on here a while back, and tried it the other day and it was AMAZING and it has inspired me greatly to marinate more tofu.
JERK TOFU
1/2 large white onion, roughly chopped
4 cloves garlic
2 tablespoons fresh ginger, grated
juice of 2 limes
zest of 1 lime
2 tablespoons soy sauce
2 tablespoons olive oil
3 tablespoons pure maple syrup
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 tablespoon dried thyme
2 teaspoons allspice
1/2 teaspoon cayenne
1 teaspoon nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
2 jalape?o peppers, seeded and chopped (or one if you don't want it too spicy)
Sort of depends on what the eventual outcome is going to be for the tofu.
Tofu is like a sponge in that it will pick up the flavour of what you marinate it in or cook it in. So you can marinate it in anything.
If you want something sweeter, try a marinade of orange juice, a dash of lemon juice and maple syrup. You can marinate tofu in watered down barbecue sauce and then bake it.
Get creative. It is fun and difficult to go wrong.
no, but I love tofu, as soon as you get some recipes, please share.
1/2 c. soy sauce (low salt)
2 tsp. dry mustard
1 clove garlic, mashed
1/3 c. oil
2 tbsp. peanut butter
2 tbsp. ketchup
Slice tofu. Coat with marinade for at least 1 hour. Broil, saute or grill.

I actually like to just use bottled marinades from the store, especially hot wing sauce, then I bread and fry "nuggets"...yummy.
Just my two cents...the one thing though to remember is that you have the best marinade in the world but with tofu if you didn't press and drain it enough and marinade it long enough, it's not going to that great. I usually marinade overnight or at least from first thing in the morning until dinner time. This way as much marinade as possible will absorb into the tofu.
