So I have been getting really sick lately...?!

Question: I havebeen a vegetarian for about 3 months now, at first I felt great!! And I still do I never felt better about what I am putting into my body (and what I'm not as well). But I am not so sure if I am getting the nutrients I need, I have been sick quite a bit lately. There are SOOO many diets to follow out there is there any you might recommend??

I really appreciate it in advance :)

One thing a lot of people don't think about when turning vegetarian is balancing your diet. Without the right amount of protein and iron, it's likely that you'll not only get sick often, but you'll constantly feel tired and run-down.

To balance your diet a bit better, try the below foods and don't forget to eat lots of fruit as well!

PROTEIN - tofu, soy products, eggs, dairy, nuts, seeds, lentils etc

IRON - dark green/leafy veggies: peas, broccoli, spinach & MUSHROOMS!

A multi-vitamin may also help you to feel better/energised.

If you're a sugar &/or caffeine addict, try to slowly get yourself off the stuff by having fresh fruit juices, herbal teas & LOTS of water to keep yourself hydrated (without it, you'll get lots of headaches!).

try incorporating a good multivitamin!

Your body is probable not use to your new eating habits. My advice is to buy some vitamins (one a day) to replace the stuff your not getting in your diet. My friend is a vegetarian and that is what she does.

If you mean cramps, nausea, or vomiting or anything relevant to that, it might be because of the lack of iron in your diet. You could go to your local drugstore and pick up some iron supplements. By not eating meat, your body is lacking the iron it needs to function. If you aren't already, I'd get some iron supplements.

If you have just cut out meat and changed nothing else, you are probablly not getting enough iron and protein. Lentils and beans are a good replacement for protein, iron supplements can obviously deal with the iron, but the best thing to do would be to look for 'vegeterian meal plans' on the internet, just type that in google or somethin and you should get loads of information.

You need to get protein. You need to eat either peanutbutter. or you need to take pills that vegans take. they are for proteins. Thats all i can say. You just need foods that have high percentages of proteins. :]

ya.... u could be suffering from a nutrient deficiency. u could try.... ug! i forgot wat they're called, but they are like pills or chewy things that have a daily percentage of what you need of a certain type of nutrient.

The average body consists of protein, water, and nutrients. What your body is getting is nutrients and water which isn't good at all. Most vegetarians have sorter life spans than carnivores. You need protein to build muscle or you'll become very weak. Especially you brain which is made up of lots f protein. Don't be vegetarian, to tell you the truth, the act of being a vegetarian isn't going to put animals to extinction. No where near close unless they are very rare. 1 person cannot make a difference in saving animals. God made animals for a reason, they are to be pets or food. It's not cruel but it's nature. If you are strickly sticking to veggies, try salmon and white fish. Loaded with protein and theyre not mammals.

i had the same problem, i took iron tablets AND TI WORKED

It depends on what you mean by sick. Your body might be reacting to an increase in fibre - you can get diarrhea and stomach cramps from increasing your fibre intake fairly quickly.

You might also not be getting enough nutrients. Input your food intake daily into a nutrition calculator - I recommend FitDay - and see what you're lacking.
