How can a REAL vegan own a pet and still claim to be a vegan?!

Question: You can't have it both ways on ths one.

Answers: You can't have it both ways on ths one.

i don't support that

Your question doesnt make any sense. Vegans do not eat anything that comes from an animal. So then, why would it be weird for Vegans to own pets? They are animal lovers....it would make more sense for them to own pets.

They can claim anything they like. You don't have to agree with them.

Unless they intend to consume their pet, I'm not sure why it would be an issue.

they're not EATING their pets! sheesh!

i do believe that is the most stupid question yet...what does owning a pet have to do with what you eat?

Why not? We dont eat them.

Being a vegan only means they dont EAT animals.

I dont think vegans take a vow not to enjoy the company of an animal, OR to not support industry through being a consumer of general products.

What planet are you on?

Why do vegans bother you so much? Are you seriously this bored?

What do you that helps humanity?

You seem very hostile to vegetarians/vegans, however you do bring up some sticky moral/ethical issues that have some validity.
Have you read Peter Singer's "Animal Liberation"? I think you'll find it interesting.

Second non-vegan today who's presumed to tell us what real vegans would do.

These questions have been asked and answered already today.

I have a cat. I rescued her from an abusive situation. I feed her meat because that is what cats are supposed to have; I can make a choice about my diet, she can't.

I don't give a toss what you think of me.

I wouldn't agree with your name common sense as you clearly lack it. They just don't eat any meat or veggies. I'm not saying become a vegan as its a bit silly, humans have adapted to eat meat, its natural for us.

Are you a 56 point troll?

they can't

********

oh, no I just realised they could say "I was saving it so that another mean person won't come and beat this cat/dog"

I am not a vegan but here is the "excuse" or justification i got when i asked the same question to a vegan friend:

"when you rescue an animal fom a shelter, give it a good home, give it a loving, cruelty free environment, feed it properly, treat is as if it is a member if the human family, then it is no longer a pet but an "animal companion". Similar to adopting a child. It will voluntarily stay with it's human family and treat it as his own"

And as I understand it, not all vegans subscribe to the "no pets allowed rule" anyway.

Your questions are so mediocre at best, you ask them over and over again, and once your points run out, you will just pick another name. I sure am glad that I run into you here and not in real life....being a vegan radical and all, I would probably gut you like a fish and feed you to my cats...

and your name is common sense? im not understanding your confusion, you dont have pets to eat them do you?

Different vegans are vegans for different reasons.

If someone's a vegan because they hate the taste of meat and dairy, or if they're concerned about their health, why would it be hypocritical to own a pet?

If you take care of a child, does it mean that you OWN that child?

Vegan people only adopt from shelters, they don't buy from stores or breeders and always spay/neuter.

All vegan people keep their companion animals in the home with them, not locked outside.

There is no "rule" that vegan people do not take care of animals for the rest of their lives.

Get a life.

Silly you, you can't read anger in simple words. Do facts bother you?
Sorry, I don't take pills. You're one to talk, Mack.

I wasn't born vegan, and before I decided to live a vegan lifestyle I owned a cat and 3 snakes.
I adopted the snakes from my high school where a science class was doing a biosphere experiement where for 3 weeks the kids had to build a "home" out of a soda bottle or something and house an animal in it. They were open to what people used and someone brought in a tortise calling it a turtle, another brought a tarantula and didn't even know what they eat (housed in a shoe box) and multiple people got betta fish and 2 liter pop bottles to house them. When the experiment was done, the people didn't know what to do with the animals, one guy was betting people that if all the kids that brought in betta gave them to him, he'd swallow them all whole. So they got like 13 fish together and he swallowed each one of them. The snake I adopted was just one of those pets, and when I adopted them, the tortoise(in a ten gal. filled with water with a frisbee w/ cabbage) and the tarantula, I demanded the school no longer allow these "experiments".
Once I went vegan I counldn't see the point in getting rid of these animals, they had become like my kids, I kept the snake and my mom is housing the others. So I own 3 snakes and a cat.
I buy cat food for my cat, he is a predator, he catches living animals and makes meals from his prey. He is naturally able to digest animal proteins and thrives on them. He is meant to live on the food I buy for him. I buy "good" food and not the commercially available over processed crap food that is just fillers and "by-product". As for my snakes, I do buy frozen mice and feed them to them thawed. I have a moral problem with doing this, its hard, but I can't justify finding some house for it that may or may not provide proper care for them.
Why are you concerened with all these "Vegan Rules". Did you buy some "vegan" rulebook and want to bring stupid things to others attention?

what is your point on this site?
