Ideas for an animal rights club?!
Answers: I am with peta2 and am starting an animal rights club at my school and was wondering if anyone has any ideas? any creative ones? or any cool club names?
Wow, I'm sorry for all the anti-animal answerers. I think it's wonderful you're starting an animal rights club at your school.
Peta2 has a lot of suggestions for starting a club... see: http://www.peta2.com/ COLLEGE/c-startgroup.asp (remove the space before COLLEGE).
Another good site to check out is http://www.peta.org/ actioncenter//AAactguide6.asp (again, remove the space).
Things like handing out leaflets in a crowded area on campus, organizing video screenings, and tabling with Meet Your Meat playing on a laptop can make a big difference. You could also work with dining hall staff to get more vegan options into the cafeteria as a major campaign.
Also, check out the Adopt A College leafeting program coordinated by Vegan Outreach: http://www.veganhealth.org/ colleges/
As for names, I'd choose something with a nice acronym. For instance, Showing Animals Respect and Kindness (SHARK) or Michigan Animal Rights Society (MARS).
Hope this helps. Good luck!
Is your school mascot an animal? You could use that.
Pets over People
Mission Statement:
We the morons of Pets over People promise to cause problems for all of the humans that have chosen to exist as the top of the food chain on planet Earth.
We don't care if your good to your pets, if your eating a chicken sandwich your a murderer. As members of PETA we will actively prove why our genes will eventually be eaten by stronger ones, making us extinct. We will fight to put animal rights above those who eat them, like our ancestor's did to survive.
Sorry about all the answers that are against what you want to do, don't let them get to you. Do you have more people that want to join? Maybe get them together and brainstorm for ideas and names. Good luck.
Wahooooo! I'm so glad there are more people who are standing up to animal cruelty and are ACTIVELY doing something about it. Since you are with Peta2 than you should be hooked up with all your resources. Talk with the other people in your group and find out what their ideas are. I don't know what your school is like or the issues you will be focusing on so it's hard for me to give you ideas. But your group can help you come up with a name and give you ideas. I will just add that I try and focus on the issues that are around me like fur, animal experimentation, factory farming, etc.
I would recommend reading up on animal rights theory and activism if you haven't done so already.
http://www.animalsuffering.com/forum/ is a very good forum for animal rights activists and advocates to discuss their views and work through moral dilemmas. It is a wealth of information and has taught me a lot.
I would also strongly recommend reading Gary L. Francione's books, starting with 'Introduction to Animal Rights'.
However, the thing that is most important is to go vegan. Eating flesh and animal products is unnecessary (a vegan diet is actually much healthier) and always causes exploitation. Even 'free-range' and 'organic' systems invariably involve rape and murder. Becoming vegan will eliminate the suffering you yourself cause and start you on a road to becoming the credible leader of an animal rights group.
I think what you're planning is wonderful! How about a fund raiser to raise money to pay for pets to get spayed & neutered for people who otherwise can't or won't pay to have this done? This would relieve so much suffering for countless animals!
It's a little difficult to help you with names without more info.
i have no life club.
Club animals. It's not really a club if it only has one member.
that's good but how about a club to help underprivileged kids? You know those kids who are not in school because they have to work and all.. for the basic human rights of those kids who are too busy earning money for their families and don't have free time to join school clubs for animal rights..
How about : AFPN (Animals forever, People never)
Are you in the city or the country? It's going to be more difficult to start one in a country type school. You know, where people deal with REALITY every day.
