It doesn’t matter whether foods are acidic or alkaline, because no foods change the acidity of anything in your body except your urine. Your stomach is so acidic that no food can change its acidity.

I can't see that anyone would need to worry about the alkalinity or acidity of foods, unless they've got a specific medical condition, like gastric ulcers or reflux or something like that.

Eat whatever does your body either (a) the most good, or (b) the least harm.

alkaline is the oppositte of acidity. a proper diet has a balance. acidic foods are mostly citrus not starches like you mentioned. if you can digest avocados you might try eating it with lemon juice. guacamole is made with lemon juice, so maybe the mexicans know what they are doing.-blurey

alkaline is salty -no it's not safe to have your body too salty. drink more water.

“Is being alkaline really good”.............

Well I believe it is. Or at least more alkaline than acid.

I found these informative websites during a Google search:

http://www.naturalhealthschool.com/acid-...

http://www.thewolfeclinic.com/acidalkfoo...

Yes they are both selling something (as most google sites do) but just ignore the sales pitch and just read the information, especially the food charts.

There are loads of other similar websites and some very, very good books written on the subject.

There are also some quack websites & books that think the whole thing is rubbish.

I think it is good to read both sides of a subject, so you can be well-informed and come to your own conclusions through your own research.

Also if alkaline foods make you sick, then don't eat them, although I wonder if there is some underlying health issue?

This information has been known since 1933, so should not be considered to be a "faddish" notion.

If you look at the food charts in the links, they show that alkaline foods are those that are generally known to be healthy. The foods shown to be acid, are generally considered to be foods that require a limited intake. The whole thing is really common sense.

I personally would NOT follow a proper alkaline/acid strict diet because I hate diets. But I do try to eat more of the good things and less of the bad things.

As we age, we lose our stomach acid, which is where the problems start (i.e.) middle age spread, health issues. As you age, you may find that you can no longer eat or tolerate what you did when you were a youth.
