" true vegan will not keep animals as pets...not even as companions.?!
I am beginning to thing 100% fanatical vegans are like any other fanatic - Unreasonable - WHAT DO YOU THINK???
Answers: Is this what Vegans really think? I like the vegan diet - there are an amazing amount of foods that dont rely on animals and I have friends who are vegan and they have rescue animals but this view is ridiculous!!! "Ownership of an animal is akin to slavery" I am shocked. I have rabbits, dogs, cat, birds all are rescued and they are not exploited. their lives are very good and if I did not look after them they would die!!

no lol the to things probile often go together but veagens r alowed to have pets we dont all have to be extreamist
I can only reply with my own thoughts on this and can not talk for every vegan. I am sure there are some vegans who do not believe it is right to keep animals and they are in-titled to that opinion.
Personally I have a bond with two cats, whilst they are are mine in the sense that my family are 'mine' I do not own them. They are happy cats who come and go as they wish. It is them who choose to return back to me. I force them to do nothing
There is a difference between having a domestic pet and keeping something locked up in a cage
Vegans don't eat animal products, for various reasons. It might be because you respect the life of animals, or simply for a health reason. Veganism is primarily about *eating* and is a personal preference, as I see it, and not something to convert people to.
I don't have pets anymore, but that's only because of family allergies.
I think some people take it to the extreme, EVERYONE that I know who is vegan and myself have animals. None of us think of them as pets, but more of family. So if your vegan and think of your animal/pet as if its stuck in a form of slavery theres somthing wrong with how you treat/act towards it.
Whoever said that was probably a troll. If it was someone named Common Sense, it's just another reincarnation of the multiple ID's that some of the flexitarians that troll the V&V forum have. That sounds like the gist and message of one of his recent questions, in fact.
I am vegan and I have no problem with people owning pets as long as they take good care of them, which is what most reasonable people in society think as well. I DO have a problem with people that don't control their pets - whose pets reproduce, whose pet's consequent offspring are dumped into the sell 'em or kill 'em animal shelter system.
Of course there is always the fringe fanatic that's on the edge of every group or society, religion, race and creed. It wouldn't be fair to let their words reflect everyone else's as a whole, would it?
vegans = love animals.
vegans = do not eat animals
get a pet from a shelter,.
do not support breeders or puppy mills.,
I am a vegan and I have 4 pets, two dogs and two cats. I hope I get to have more, I am going to get some turtles from the a rescue center.
I think that I belong to an online forum populated by nearly 5,000 vegans and the majority of us share our lives with companion animals. Who said "true vegans" will not keep pets?
you're right, that's crazy.
You are quoting an answer posted by a person who is not vegan - she didn't say she was.

If you check out Gina C's Q&A history, you will see that not only is she not vegan, one of her main interests is pets, and she appears to have several.
She was playing the same game 'Common Sense' is playing - a non-vegan making a lame attempt to prove that vegans are hypocrites.
Whenever someone comes on V&V pompously telling vegans what 'true' vegans will and won't do, it's time to call BS. Invariably that person is NOT a vegan - other examples are vegan.conscript and FlexitarianVegan (the usernames are intended to confuse)..
I'm vegan and I have a cat rescued from an abusive situation. I wouldn't get an animal from a shop or a breeder who bred them for that purpose.
