What is your opinion on becoming a non-vegetarian?!
Answers: Hey my name is Ashwin,15. I used to eat meat but for the past 5 years i have been a strict vegetarian. This is becuase of my caste of my religion. But, living in the US it is hard to be a vegetarian and i used to love chicken. Should I start eating meat coz it tastes good, gives me protein(and my doctor stops worrying about my protein intake), and gives me more freedom when i go to resturaunts.Thanks.
Well, it's crazy how many Indians (I'm assuming by your name) decide to give up being a vegetarian just because they're living outside of India. It's not impossible, it's not even terribly difficult. My dad moved from India, and for a few years, started eating meat. Then realized how silly this was and went back to being vegetarian.
I've been a vegetarian since I as 9 years old. And I live in Texas, probably the hardest place in the U.S. to be vegetarian. But it's not hard! You can request at many restaurants to not put meat in the food, but many have some vegetarian options already. Cook home more often.
You can get your protein from so many other sources. You're indian, You know that beans have tons of protein. Milk has tons of protein too. Nuts as well.
Of course, religion is meaningless to those who move here. It's all a cultural thing for Indians. Whatever is convenient. Do what you want, if the only reason you want to be a vegetarian is that you have this invisible thing called a 'caste' to make you have a 'stricter' diet, then ignore it. It's all made up anyway.
It's your personal choice and it's understandable for temptations but if you do wish to stay veggie, there are plenty of easy ways to. For example, most shops do a wide variety of "faux" meats e.g lamb style or chicken style foods etc that taste just as good and are full of good stuff. Also if its protein your worried about, there are lots of lovely rice, lentil, nuts, pulses dishes that are great.
Do you mean vegetarian or vegan? I think veganism is extremely unnatural and unhealthy. Only in developed countries do people actively turn away good food because they are making a statement. They have become out of touch with the earth and their bodies.
Vegetarians I can understand, especially if it is based on your religion...are you from India? I don't know why you would have been eating meat before the past 5 years, but if you like it, eat it.
I think you should decide on 2 factors- your health, and your heart.
Even if you decide to eat meat i would ask resturants whether their meat is free range becasue i cannot think as anything worse (me being a vegetarian myself) than the thought of the animals not living a normal life whereas free range they live a normal life. And of course- your health comes first! Hope this helps you as i know its a hard decision!
ashwin you are free to eat what you want .
being a vegetarian is a lifestyle and belief , and if you are not commited 100% than follow your heart in what to eat.
i grew up eating meat but turned vegetarian last 25 yrs .
i have travelled usa / africa / india / nepal and i never have had problems , maybe some ristrictions .
If your doctor is worrying about your protein intake, he is obviously an extremely uneducated and idiotic doctor and he should be struck off.
Most intelligent doctors will agree that protein deficiency is extremely rare in the USA. Protein deficiency will only affect those literally starving to death or those people who are classed as malnourished.
If you want to start re-eating meat – then do it. Do you really need our opinions on whether you should or not.
Actually even asking these questions makes me think you are a silly troll poster.
I know a lot of people who eat vegetarian & vegan for religious reasons and they have never changed their diet just because they changed countries.
.
Actually, being Vegetarian and/or Vegan is EXTREMELY healthy for your body. Many people assume it is bad for you, but have not done the research to justify the unhealthiness. I wouldn't recommend eating meat only because it tastes good...there are plenty of other meat-free meals that taste delicious. Think about what it would sound like to argue with the following scenario: “I like the way it sounds,” when someone asks you why you’re hitting infants on the head with a hammer. “There’s nothing quite like that sound, and I really like it (and maybe add tradition in here), so I don’t see why I should give it up”.
If you are going to a restaurant or out to eat and are having trouble finding meat-free foods, don't be afraid to ask! Order a chicken salad with no chicken. Get a sub with veggies only. Go to taco bell and get beans instead of meat. Just explore your options....there are plenty out there.
Hey Ashwin! It is awesome you have been a strict vegetarian. There are millions of vegetarians & vegans in the USA, it is not that hard to be a vegetarian in the USA.
No, you should definitely stay a vegetarian/vegan. Think of your health, why would you want to contaminate your body with dead bodies, and protein that is hard to digest? There are tons of places to get your protein and other nutrients and easier to digest that is not meat. You would find plenty of food here that taste extremely great, way better than dead bodies could ever taste.
Where in the US do you live? Some cities/states may be a little difficult when going out, but some are extremely easy with all the options they have.
But you have to weigh out the reasons you are a vegetarian, try it again in the states, and don't be brainwashed and give into peer pressure back into eating meat. Be strong, peaceful, happy, & dead bodies/diseased free, stay veg!
If your doctor is worried about your protein intake, he obviously doesn't know anything about nutrition.
Registered dietitians are trained in nutrition. General practitioners and most physicians usually don't have a clue of how to plan a healthy diet. They mostly are just full of themselves and think that they are suitable advisers of any area of health. Their job is to fix you when you are broken, not to keep you healthy.
Chicken is the worst meat to eat. They are the most abused animals on the planet.
If you really need to eat meat, you should hunt wild game. If you have a problem with hunting, you shouldn't be eating any meat at all.

at your age, you can cause a lot of damage to your body by being a vegetarian.
It's a myth and a lie that vegetarianism is healthy. It's not. Eat a steak, medium-rare, TONIGHT for dinner.
