Going vegetarian for one month, what do I need to know?!

Question: So me and some friends challanged ourselfs to not eat meat for one whole month. We are still gonna drink milk and eat cheese and eggs. We need our calcium :p
I already did something like this 2 years ago, no soda or junk food for 3 months, I actaully did it!
So, any advice?

I <3 Muse.

It really isn't too much of a challenge once you get the hang of it. I mean you just sort of make sure you replace your meat with other sources of nutrition. I'm a lacto-ovo vegetarian, so dairy products make up a good amount of my food...(I don't really eat eggs much at all unless it's baked into something that someone else made).

You can try meat substitutes like tofu, seitan, morningstar products, boca burgers.... Hope you keep the vegetarian thing up.

Add some peanut butter and beans to your list, you need the protein.

I would take a multivitamin as well as make sure you are including complete proteins such as beans, eggs, cheese and milk. Also for meal ideas look up Indian food. Most of it is vegetarian. Pretty good stuff too.

Peanuts, eats peanuts cause it will be a subsitute for the meat.

What you need to know - is eat a varied and balanced diet which is totally possible on a vegetarian diet.

Doing without the soda and junk food - good thing to do anyway. That stuff is no good for anyone on any sort of diet.

You can go the route of getting the pre-made soy products to make life easier for you. The variety is amazing (seems that bigger companies have finally found out about the untapped market of vegetarianism).

Just remember variety in foods - grains, fruits, vegetables. It is the one thing that my doctor really stressed with me - that I have followed - that has kept me healthy.

Dont eat junk food!
this is a mistake that many people take while trying to turn vegetarian, and then they blame it on the diet itself. In order to get the full benefits of being vegetarian, you have to do it correctly. You will need to eat foods with protein such as: nuts, beans, tofu, soy meat, etc.

Just so you know, the average human body doesn't need a lot of protein to function properly. Omnivores tend to eat more protein than needed, and some of them say that vegetarian lack it. This is 100% false, so dont try to eat a lot of protein while being vegetarian.

I also recommend eating a lot of fruit and veges (lol duhh), they are extremely healthy, and are needed to make your body function properly. I think you and your friends should also restrict sugary foods, just to make sure you guys dont eat this stuff instead of what is needed.

And my last piece of advise it to just be prepared. Get rid of all the meat in your fridge, and look up recipes that you'll be able to make. Plan your meals out a week in advance, for this will prevent you from starving and from buying too much food at the grocery store.

-good luck
