Help needed in raising my haemoglobin levels please?!
Answers: The last couple of times that I tried to donate blood, my levels have been too low. I know that eating spinach, is a good food for iron, but can any body tell me of some foods that will really help. Thanks. I am veggie.
my midwife told me this because my iron levels were low & iron tablets didnt agree with me
drink pure orange juice with every meal.the vit c helps to absorb more iron from your meals.
Take a multivitamin and ask your doctor about iron supplementation. SlowFE is a good brand.
jello, liver, foods that are green. plenty of iron.
Lentils, chick peas, baked beans believe it or not. I take a spoonful of molasses every morning that is a really good source of Iron. I used to get B12 injections. You have to buy them in the pharmacy here and then go to your doctor to have him administer them but you really feel the benefit .
your diet need ti increase food rich in iron .
try eating beet root , it has very high concentration of iron .
just boil and add as side vege.
baby beetroot are more tasty.
you can buy them picked also
i m a vege last 25 yrs and healthy
get ur self some iron it can be bought in pills
Dark green leafy veggies, silver beet, savoy cabbage, cale etc.
Previous poster is right about vit c helping absorption so fresh orange juice and an egg is a great breakfast as there is iron in the egg. Broccoli is also a great source of iron. Replace your cereals and breads with fortified ones as well and see if the both help.
hi i have the same problem my doc has put me on iron tabs and to take it with orange juice it is supposed to help absorbe the iron better eggs are good for iron aswell
Some people just never have a high red blood cell count. I'm the same as you, borderline anaemic. My diet makes absolutely no difference, and I eat red meat as well as other iron rich foods. You may just not be able to donate. You might have a low H count because you have heavy bleeding 'down there', if so nothing you eat will help until you sort that out.
The advice about the orange juice and iron pills is bang on, as vitamin C increases iron absorbtion. You need to eat more B vitamins too. Also, stop drinking tea near meal times, as the tannin stops you absorbing iron.
