Is eating eggs vegetarian?!
Answers: I heard somewhere that eggs you buy from the store were never going to be chicks anyway so it's okay to eat them if you're a vegetarian. Is this true? Why is it again?
The eggs is the supermarket shouldn't be fertilised, so no, they wouldn't have been chicks. (Although I have heard stories ...) It's not morally like abortion at all (As suggested in another answer) It's more like a chickens menstration... (kinda gross when I put it that way).
The problem with eating eggs, ethically, is that it is directly connected with the meat trade. Once the chickens are too old to lay, where do you think they go? (I'll give you a hint, it's not a retirement home.) And when they are replaceing the "retired" hens, they only need girl chicks, so what happens to the baby boys? Again, not a pretty picture. :(
(I like Double X's idea on that)
Unless you know the chicken personally (or the chicken's owner/caretaker if you aren't that friendly with chickens themselves) it's not really safe to assume that the eggs mama was treated with any sort of respect...
It's the same with milk.
Depends on what kind of vegetarian you are.
Eggs are not okay if you are vegan as they are an animal product.
Vegetarian (Lacto-ovo- vegetarian)
When most people think of vegetarians, they think of lacto-ovo-vegetarians. People who do not eat beef, pork, poultry, fish, shellfish or animal flesh of any kind, but do eat eggs and dairy products are lacto-ovo vegetarians (“lacto” comes from the Latin for milk, and “ovo” for egg).
Lacto-vegetarian is used to describe a vegetarian who does not eat eggs, but does eat dairy products.
Ovo-vegetarian refers to people who do not eat meat or dairy products but do eat eggs.
Well, let's contemplate: are eggs in the produce department??
There are several types of vegetarians:
"Type 1) Semi vegetarians - These 'vegetarians' eat all types of foods in their diet - including meat. However these individuals limit the amount of animal products they consume. I would be considered a semi vegetarian.
Type 2) Lacto vegetarian - Individuals in this group are a step up from the semi vegetarians. They avoid all animal products except for dairy products in their diet.
Type 3) Lacto-ovo vegetarians - This type of vegetarian diet excludes all meat except for dairy and eggs. Not too different from the previous type.
Type 4) Vegans - These are the 'hard-core" vegetarians who avoid all animal products in their diet, such as meats, dairy products, and eggs. The vegan diet rely on lentils, beans, soy products etc."
I am not sure that eggs are for vegetarians or not but if I were you i would ask an professional and if you are not really sure take it from me and don't eat it.
Depends...how vegetarian you are
Some vegetarians dont drink milk, eat dairy, eat eggs, or anything that comes from animals
Other vegetarians just don't eat meat (or things that hurt animals)
no it's not
Yes, but not vegan. There are unfertilized eggs.
Eggs aren't vegan, but they are definitely allowed if you're only vegetarian. I eat them anyway, and I can't see a moralistic problem with them, so long as they are free-range. The eggs are unfertilised, so they are essentially just a waste product, until they are fertilised of course. the previous answer however, does show a problem with it, the chickens are killed for meat once they no longer have egg-production use, so it ent very nice really. I intend to counter this problem, once I own my own property, my raising my own pet chickens, and recieving eggs off them as gifts :) They will have names too :P Milk is a different matter altogether however, it is much worse. For a cow to continuously produce milk, it has a calf and this calf is taken away from the mother cow and is most likely to be used for veal production (absolutely disgusting) and the cow continues to produce milk, once it stops, it will be used for beef :(
Nah. They still come from an animal. Its like the embryo of a chicken. Same reason there is so much controversy over abortion. Some people say its not a baby, but it has a heart beat in 19 days. Whether its fully developed or not , it is a still a type of the animal it came from. Some people might not like to think of it that way:)
Eggs are vegetarian.
Eggs aren't vegan.
If you have become a vegetarian because of the way animals are killed, then eating eggs is probably morally fine.
If you became a vegetarian because of the fact that animals are unnecessarily killed, then it may not be morally ok for you.
It all depends on what you think is right - don't let a label change that.
vegetarian yes u can eat eggs as long as its not meat
veagen is no animal bi products so no eggs
some vegetarians(like me!) dont eat eggs eather though beacuse we just dont feal it wright but its all opoins
Yes eating eggs is vegetarian. I am a vegetarian and I ate eggs but then I decided not to eat them any more. =]
Hope this helps!!!!!!! =D
Technically speaking the eggs were probally never going to be chicks because farmers took them away to be used as a food source before they could be fertilized. So they could be chicks, but never were going to be.
depends..............many vegitarinas dont but i do because i am a lacto-ova vegitarian which means i eat dairy, eggs, and plant based foods. there are many times of vegitarians =]
yes it is!
it depends on the person. i only eat free range eggs.
someone who doesn't eat eggs is usually a vegan
