Is there a name for cruelty free?!
Answers: I've only just discovered what some cows have to go through for milk, so I bought organic today, but I'm not sure if that is cruelty free milk?
free-range is the name for cruelty free, at least for meat and eggs. i don't really think there is any cruelty-free commercial milk though. like someone else said, cows aren't meant to produce milk for anyone except their offspring, just like humans. i would recommend drinking soy or rice milk. they're kind of weird at first, but once you get used to them they're delicious!
Yes 'unsafe' or 'untested'
Not forgetting 'expensive'
Organic only means that the cows were not fed antibiotics and whatnot. Cows go through a lot to give there milk for drinking. But unless you go straight to a farm in Kansas to get your milk from someone who does it by hand instead of using a machine, you won't be able to get something where these processes are not used. Sorry.
No. It is better for you though. (A lot of the pesticides and hormones and antibiotics they give to cows leach into the milk.)
Unless you know someone with a cow- there really is no such thing as cruelty free milk.
Cows don't give milk until after they're pregnant. If the offspring is male, a dairy operation has little use for him - he becomes veal.
The only things that are considered cruelty free are the ones that do not contain any animals or humans in it. If the milk you buy is organic, that does not mean cruelty free. Most cruelty free products are better for humans health, and self conscious.
Cruelty free *milks* are plant milks, such as soy, hemp, etc.
Organic just means the cows lived and fed on chemical free land. It doesn't refer to the husbandry of them in any way.
Marketing gimmick. There is no legal definition of it.
PS When an antibiotic is given to a cow, there is a mandatory isolation period for that cow based on which drug was administered. The milk from that cow does not go into the general output until the isolation period is over. So regular milk contains no more antibiotic traces than organic milk. Additionally, wouldn't it be MORE cruel to make the cow suffer (and possibly die) from an infection that is easily treatable with modern pharmaceuticals? Would you do that to your kid?
Organic milk is more often a simple marketing gimmick because of the latest craze over anything labeled organic. It may simply mean that no additives or artificial preservatives were added to the milk. How the cow itself is treated is another issue.
By the way, most commercial milk is "repacked" meaning they are obtained from several milk producers and are processed and repackaged as a single brand. So some may actually be "cruelty free" "free range", milk coming from smaller farmers while some may come from "factory" dairy farms. There is really no way to tell unless you do your own search from the various milk suppliers in or near your area.
Organic .
A statement which can only be used on a product by those who are certified as organic.
Organic means. That your product. In the case of milk. Has not been fed anything other than naturally produced feeds ie grass, silage, dairy pellets. The use of hormones or antibiotics of any sort within the feeds is not allowed other than direct meds for vet/medical use & then the withdrawl from consumtion period is twice as long as it is for standard dairy products.
Organic also means, your product was raised/produced under welfare regualtions that are way higher than standard intensive farm practises.
People are not going organic just because its new food band waggon to jump on. We go organic because it shows that we give a dam about what we produce & want to let the public know that not only do we care about our produce, but we also care about the animals that are under our care.
Simply put. Your organic milk, will have come from dairy cows who are very well looked after, come from a much much smaller herd than standard farms, as is an all over higher quality product. Buying organic shows that you care.
The only "cruelty free" milk is milk from plant sources; such as soy, rice, hemp, almond, or cashew. Cow milk isn't meant for humans; it's meant for their calves.
"Organic" means the animals weren't fed antibiotics or hormones. In reality, there is no such thing as a "nice" farm or "happy" dairy cows because they're raped, their calves are taken away (female calves end up with the same fate as their mother, while male calves end up as veal), their milk is taken for human use, the process repeats, then when they can't produce enough milk, they end up as meat.
