Can a vegetarian eat peanuts since they are classified as a meat?!
Answers: i am not a vegetarian so dont judge me i dont judge you as long as you dont try and shove your beliefs down everyone elses throats
Peanuts and any type of nuts can be eaten by vegetarians and vegans. They aren't really classified as meat they are legumes. Vegetarians do no eat any living thing that contains a heart not to be confused with plants being living.
A common misconception is that vegetarians can eat fish, seafood and/or chicken. That is NOT true. Although people do not classify fish or chicken as meat, vegetarian do not eat fish, seafood or poultry.
I hope that helps. :)
Yes you can eat peanuts. Most vegans won't eat anything that had parents.
Since when has a peanut been classified as a "meat"? Meat is the flesh of a dead animal. Peanuts are legumes, which are a plant.
And I happen to know one very strict veg who loooves her some peanut butter.
A peanut is not classified as a "meat," it is a legume (bean). It is classified as a "protein" if that is what you are thinking of with the food pyramid. In the food guide pyramid as it exists now, there is no plain meat category, it is contained in the category "Meat, Poultry, Fish, Dried Beans (peanuts are here), Eggs, and Nuts." Here is a link to MyPyramid.gov for you to check out if you have any more confusion over this.

Peanuts are not meat. Protein content has nothing to do with something being meat. Meat is the flesh of animals. Peanuts are not derived from animals.
NOT A VEGAN
I am not a vegetarian but I do know that peanuts are not classified as meat. They are however in the same food group as meat for PROTEINS. So yes they can eat peanuts as it comes from plants not animals.
Peanuts are not a meat, they are a protean.
Meat comes from muscle tissue of an animal. Vegetables and fruits come from things that are planted.
Peanuts are classified as meat for dieting and weight watching as it contains a lot of fat and proteins. It was and remains vegetarian.
the proteins in peanuts are absolutely similar to other nuts are perfectly edible and very nutritious not to mention delicious
Peanuts have protein and they are under the category of meats, but it's not meat. Eggs are under the food pyramid as meats/proteins, but vegetarians still eat them.
so yes to answer your question they can eat them... :)
Vegetarians do not eat animals.
Peanuts are not animals.
"Meat" originates from an Olde English word that meant food.
yes becuse it comes from a plant not an animal
If you think that or were taught that, then you or your teachers must have read "Meat for Dummies"
it was not really classified as "meat" but placed in the meat category because of its reputation as a high protein source similar to most meats.
Peanuts classified as a meat - ha, ha, ha -
Your "teachers" need to be sacked or to go back to school themselves.
.
Seems to me that someone has a total retard for a teacher! Lets face it, did the peanut have to die? Nope.
Im a vegetable rights activist, carrot juice is murder!
Ha! Yes, peanuts are OK for vegetarian/vegans.
A peanut isn't animal flesh, and it doesn't derive from an animal, like milk or eggs. It's perfectly vegetarian AND vegan.
I'm not sure why a peanut's protein content would put it in the meat category. All foods have protein. Sounds like more food propaganda brought to you by the meat industry.
people mistakenly refer to the "protien" category of the food pyramid as the "meat category" this does not make beans, peanuts MEAT, just because they're in the same category on the food pyramid, which should be labeled the "protien" category.
peanuts are a legume, a relative of a beans.. a plant
meat is the flesh of a dead animal,,
quite simple really...
What. The. Hell?
That category on the food pyramid is not the "meat" category, it's the "protein" category. Peanuts are a plant. Meat is the flesh of a dead animal. Surely you've noticed the difference.
Fez hit the nail on the head. The food pyramid was made with an enormous amount of bullying from the beef lobby.
I just looked at the food pyramid on my fridge and it says "meat and beans." My dietitian wife says it's called "meat and meat substitutes."
The food groups are classifed by what nutrients they contain.
The food pyramid is supposed to be as simple as possible so even people who aren't very smart or can't read will be able to understand it. Maybe they thought it would make more sense to more people if they called it "meat group" instead of "protein group."
If they put meat and peanuts in two different groups it would make some people think they have to eat from both groups.
The concept of vegetarianism was developed thousands of years before anyone thought of a "food pyramid."
Teachers aren't perfect; I had teachers tell me all kinds of stuff that wasn't true. It used to make me angry when I was young, but now I realize they were just trying to do their jobs and they couldn't possibly know everything.
peanuts are not a meat because they are high in protein, meat is a dead animal, peanuts are not animals, unless you know something i dont.....
Protein doesn't always equal meat. That is a lie that the a very nonvegetarian society wants you to think. If it doesn't come from an animal or the bi-product of an animal (like milk and eggs) it isn't meat. That is the truth as easy as I can put it.
