This is what a vegetarian is: http://www.vegsoc.org/info/definitions.h...

As you can see, most vegetarians opt to include eggs and dairy products. It sounds like you're aiming for a vegan diet, which i great because eggs and dairy are just as cruel as meat.

Don't worry if it takes you some time to make the switch. It's a big transition and there's nothing wrong with taking it a step at a time. As long as you're still eating fish you're not a vegetarian, but you're not striving for a label, you're striving for a diet you can feel good about.

There are some really fabulous soy ice creams available. Turtle Mountain Purely Decadent is wonderful and I can find it at my regular grocery store. Otherwise, it's available at Whole Foods.

I was never much of an egg eater, but now I love scrambled tofu for breakfast. Here's a scrumptious recipe: http://www.theppk.com/recipes/dbrecipes/... I like it topped with salsa and served with hashbrowns. Yum!

"Becoming Vegan" by Brenda Davis and Vesanto Melina is a great resource for nutritional information and a must-have for beginning vegans. I highly recommend it.

Well they do make alternative ice creams for vegans and some vegetarians. Just make sure you eat lots of protine, like beans. Its very important especially when you first switch off meat.

Eggs are vegetarian. Eggs are not vegan though.

You can buy vegetarian ice cream.

frozen yoghurt is a good substitute for ice cream, it can get sickening after a while though

I'm also a vegetarian, my rule is don't ever eat any thing that has a heart, face, or feels pain in any way, when i first became a veggie i thought i was doing great, and then by chance i found out about Animal by products and nearly died with shock, i never ever eat any thing that doesn't have the v on the packet plus i look at every thing i buy to make sure its ok, but it really depends on your reasons for becoming a veggie, mine is the whole cruelty thing, and fish hurt too!!but dont give up, your doing good.

That's not a vegetarian diet, that's a vegan diet. You should maybe read up on it a bit more first, find out which you want to be?
We don't eat any animal produce, which includes meat, fish, milk, cheese, eggs, butter, or honey. You have to be very, very astute and check all of your labels for things like lactose and whey powder, which are derived from milk.

I live in the UK and get a good soya ice cream from the supermarket, it's in a black tub. You can also get Ener-G products from most good health food shops which is a powdered milk subsititute.
If you live elsewhere I'm not 100% sure what is available to you.

For healthy/low fat vegan ideas read the Skinny ***** books.

Vegans do not eat any animals or animal products. This includes fish, eggs, and dairy.

Ovo-vegetarians do not eat any animals (including fish!), but they do eat eggs. They do not eat dairy.

Lacto-vegetarians do not eat any animals (once again, including fish), but they do eat dairy. They do not eat eggs.

Ovo-lacto-vegetarians eat no animals, but they do eat eggs and dairy.

Pescetarians abstain from all meat except for fish. They are not vegetarians.

Hope those definitions help. If you want to go vegan, you can find ice cream and egg substitutes. If you want to go vegetarian, you can sometimes find fish substitutes as well. Check at Asian markets for those.

Congratulations for moving toward a more healthful and compassionate diet.

Vegetarians can consume eggs and dairy products. The key to vegetarianism is that you don't eat animal FLESH ... in other words, if what you eat caused an animal to die, you refrain from it.

Vegans avoid ALL animal products, including eggs, dairy, and honey. Some also avoid animal products in things other than food ... for example, a vegan might not buy leather shoes.

You can't eat fish and be a vegetarian or a vegan. A veg + fish diet is called pescetarian.

And you will get enough protein. The meat industry wants you to think you can't get enough protein from veggies, fruits, and grains alone, but in fact, you'll get plenty.

Good luck to you!

Tuna is not recommended for those who wish to be vegetarian which is exclusion of animals and tuna is an animal.
