Why are seafood and poultry not considered meat by some people?!
Answers: They all started out as living creatures. What sets each of them apart?
Good question! I think it may have something to do with beef being called red meat but poultry and fish don't have meat in their titles. Either way flesh is flesh. I don't understand those people who don't think it's meat.
I think it was a choice...both of my sisters don't eat meat (chicken, beef, pork etc) but will have cheese, eggs, fish and shellfish. I never care to ask why.
Poultry is "meat" - that's how I was raised - and that during lent on Friday's you would eat "seafood" that did not have any blood, like shrimp, calamari, octopus, clams, mussels, oysters.. etc..
It all depends what culture you come from. "red meat" is considered meat in some places, then there is fowl, and fish. They don't all group them together. So if you live in a multi-cultural area, of course you will get some people who don't think that fowl is meat.
:) Which is why you need to research before you travel to, say, Costa Rica :)
No idea, I consider them all meat.
I class them as meat.
Because seacreatures and birds are the least like people! So we cant relate to them as much as mammals. thats why people care if other people eat dogs, but not chickens. Its kind of stupid
People are miseducated.
Or, they are separating mammals from birds and fish.
Lots of times, people won't eat things they can relate to. And most peole can relate to mammals - as we are all mammals.
They forget that birds can still feel pain and have emotions. That when they are debeaked, shoved into crates with broken legs and wings, and are boiled alive - it hurts.
And for fish, they aren't cute. People think they are lower on the "rights" totem pole because they can't relate to them and because they don't live on land. They forget that 25%-50% of a "catch" is "bycatch" fish who are killed and dumped back into the ocean because they are the wrong kind of fish. And the 15,000 birds that are tangled in fishing gear. And the thousands of manatees, whales, dolphins, turtles, seals, sea lions that are killed from it.
If you eat fish, you are also eating dolphins, whales, albatross, manatees, and seals.
i was told its because they have no blood. i believe that if your a vegitarian who eats seafood your not a true vegitarian
Old religion
WELL start with sea food is mostly cold blooded although the flesh is called meat as for poultry they are fowl.
the reason is the,,, OLD religions set rules using Human standards of judgment..
all carnivores,, bad they eat rotten meat (carrion)
smooth skinned fish because they suck through the muck and filth ..
same for pigs,, then the nature of the beast ( I never understood this the (cloven hoof) but understand Don't kill the transportation)
It is all nonsense today now that every culture and nationality can be observed....
Some cultures have seperated animal flesh into categories and use the word meat differently. All in all, animal flesh is animal flesh, and that's all that matters.
Nothing sets them apart, and it drives me nuts when people can't comprehend that "meat" = "animal flesh." I tell someone I don't eat meat, and they'll sometimes fire back with, "But you eat fish, right?" Uh, no. Fish is meat. Poultry is meat. Pork is meat. Beef is meat. I have no idea why so many people will say things like "meat, fish, and poultry." The first word encompasses the last two. Last I checked, fish isn't a vegetable!
fish and chickens aren't like mammals but that doesnt mean that they arent living creatres.
I think people have been misinformed.
and fish and chicken don't grow on trees last time I checked.
