Why do most companies not state their products as vegetarian or vegan?!
In England, even at the age of 9 ( in1986), I knew which cheese I could eat, as it had a little green V symbol.
I know companies like Amy’s does but many main stream brands do not.
Answers: I have found many vegetarian and vegan foods / personal care products do not label as such. Why?

Most mainstream foods are accidentally vegan/vegetarian. They aren't purposely made vegetarian or vegan, and i'm sure most of the manufacturers don't care one way or the other if they are vegetarian-friendly or not.
Because that would cut out the label reading that everyone has to do. What's the fun in that?
I honestly don't know why though. Maybe they think people will eat it if they don't think it's vegetarian, since vegetarianism has this stigma about it.
I think that many are trying to reach the 'mainstream market'.
Thing is - that from what I have been able to see from reading the different market research that healthy choices in food (such as organic, vegetarian, vegan) are the new and growing markets.
So I think that will be changing. But if it really bothers you - why not just write the company and ask them why they don't put on the label that they are vegetarian or vegan? Maybe they haven't caught on that there really are people that are interested and looking for that information??
Its a matter of money and they prob dont even care. We are a small percentage and dont matter to some people. Its sad actually but the matter is that people just dont carre!
