Why are people vegetarians?!

Question: Some think it is healthier, I don't. I would die without my chicken nuggets. As for me I will stick to being a chocolatarian....I wish!

because they dont like eating meat

Why not look up Vegetarianism and see some reasons for yourself? They are vast and many.

I am a vegetarian because of the way that animals at the slaughterhouse are treated. It's awful. By being a vegetarian one person can save up to 100 animal's lives in one year.

Some reasons:
1. They don't think that some poor creature should have to die to provide your meal every time you eat.
2. They don't like the cruel way most animals are treated before they are eventually killed and eaten.
3. Eating meat is very bad for you. It leads to heart attacks, strokes, cancer and premature death.

There are a wide variety of reasons that one could choose to be vegetarian.

Inhumane meat industry (getting better, but barely)
Don't like meat (hard to digest, doesn't taste good)
Don't like to kill animals
High cholesterol
It's cheaper to eat vegetarian
Lots of health benefits (which is why many people are "vegetarian" yet still eat fish)

Probably many many more reasons too! I mean, why does anyone eat the way they do?

it can be religious beliefs, personal beliefs, or health reasons.
i know thats a little vague, but those are the basic reasons.

Because they do not live in the real world.
There is not another creature in the world that is a true omnivore, like the human, and chooses to be vegetarian .

Because some believe in not harming animals for the purpose of food consumption when the human body is really made to be vegetarian. It is very inefficient the way our diet is for all purposes and ultimately we will die much faster eating more meat rather than being a vegetarian.

Many different reasons. Some just don't like meat, some people think its wrong to kill and eat animals, sometimes there are religious reasons why people can't eat meat.
I would suggest you ask some vegetarians and see what their reasons are!

God gave me teeth to tear and chew meat , who am I to question that ?

I can only speak for myself. I stopped eating red meat when I was 12 because I had many pets and felt terrible thinking I was eating cute animals like them for dinner. Just last year (when I was 23), I gave up all meat realizing that even animals that I don't think are cute feel pain and i have no business eating them either. If I couldn't personally kill an animal for food, I don't want someone else doing that for me.

Because we humans have free will and choice...mostly.
I would like to be vegetarian mentally...but my body would not cooperate. I am a human animal who is a member of a species that is a carnivore. I have yet to see a healthy vegetarian. Everyone I know has developed diabetes or kidney failure or something major. That is their choice. I eat meat and I thank the animal who gave up it's life for me. I thank the Lord for providing what I need.

I have tried toufu and I have found little of the recipes that taste good. To me there are a lot of delusional vegetarians in the world. This is my own opinion but I choose to eat whole proteins.

due to the health, environment, animal suffering associated with meat eating, ethics and intellect.

people do it for numerous reasons. some do it for there health or to keep there heart healthy.
others so it because they dont feel the need to eat something that once lived. i personally do it for the animals. it breaks my heart knowing this animal went through unspeakable cruelty just to fufill my hunger.

Ask 100 vegetarians and you will get 100 different answers. We are not all of one mind.

I am veg*n because I don't believe that eating animal-sourced foods is healthy for my body, for the animals involved, or for the planet as a whole.

they (I) do not like the idea of eating a dead rotten corpse of a once living breathing thing.

Here's a few that I can think of
- moral objection to eating animals
- don't like the taste of meat
- may find it difficult to digest meat
- may be vegetarian for health reasons

I'm sure there are lots more.

Anyway, I do love meat :D

Why not?

because we dont want to harm any living animal because every living animal has desires and wants love

every time an animal is slaughtered it cries and suffers because we want to satisfy our bellies and taste buds
why would you eat anything with eyes? if meat is real food for real people then you better start living next to a real good hospital real soon

meat is unnartural for the body
Meat-eaters: have claws

Herbivores: no claws

Humans: no claws

Meat-eaters: have no skin pores and perspire through the tongue

Herbivores: perspire through skin pores

Humans: perspire through skin pores

Meat-eaters: have sharp front teeth for tearing, with no flat molar teeth for grinding

Herbivores: no sharp front teeth, but flat rear molars for grinding

Humans: no sharp front teeth, but flat rear molars for grinding

Meat-eaters: have intestinal tract that is only 3 times their body length so that rapidly decaying meat can pass through quickly

Herbivores: have intestinal tract 10-12 times their body length.

Humans: have intestinal tract 10-12 times their body length.

Meat-eaters: have strong hydrochloric acid in stomach to digest meat

Herbivores: have stomach acid that is 20 times weaker than that of a meat-eater

Humans: have stomach acid that is 20 times weaker than that of a meat-eater

Meat-eaters: salivary glands in mouth not needed to pre-digest grains and fruits.

Herbivores: well-developed salivary glands which are necessary to pre-digest grains and fruits

Humans: well-developed salivary glands, which are necessary to pre-digest, grains and fruits

Meat-eaters: have acid saliva with no enzyme ptyalin to pre-digest grains

Herbivores: have alkaline saliva with ptyalin to pre-digest grains

Humans: have alkaline saliva with ptyalin to pre-digest grains

and we dont have canines we have bare teeth for grinding

Totally agree with the statement, "Ask 100 different vegetarians and get 100 different answers".
It can be for many different reasons.
My reason for being vegetarian is very simple. I don't want to eat animal flesh because it belongs on four legs in a field, not decomposing in my stomach. But that's just my take on it.
