Decided to be a vegetarian?!

Question: sooo,
i'm fourteen and
i recently chose to be a vegetarian.
it's a long story, but i used to eat a lot of meat and i'm finding it difficult to find foods that can substitute.
i have soy chicken and hot dogs and everything.
i've been doing this for almost a month and i'd like to continue...
any suggestions?

hey, i'm 15 and have been a vegetarian for about a year and a half. My whole family still eats meat so i learned to make my own food or just eat around the meat. For example, if your family is having tacos just make some beans and eat a bean taco. I eat a lot of pasta, (stir-fry, pasta salad, spaghetti) with veggies. You don't have to substitute you can just leave out the meat in a dish and eat nuts or beans on the side. I also eat a lot of trail mix and fruit. I personally don't like the soy food so i haven't eaten much of it, and i am still healthy. Good luck.

My family and I cook foods just as you would "regular" dishes, but ommit the meat. Like, we cook spaghetti, but leave out the ground beef.

i just stopped being a vegetarian its hard to keep in shape when your a veggie i was a vegan for 18 years and i am 18 now so i was a born veggie mum made me basically!!! and eating meat was really hard as id say givin it up is too but there are loads of stuff u can eat also there are many different types of vegetarians- lactose vegetarian is when you eat dairy products and vegan is where you dont eat any dairy or animal products id recommend still eating dairy proudcts and try eating fish cause its so good for you and quorn is soya meat and they have all different types o and lentils are high in protein and beans eat beansXD its hard work being a veggie so think carefuly if you are'nt eating soya meat and getting enough protein then dont keep it up cause you will put on loads of weight dont be lazy experiment! i was a vegan and it aint easy ahhh thank god for meat meat meat arrr i love itXD

Buy a good cookbook and focus on incorporating more veggies and tofu into your diet. Meat substitutes are convenient but are super expensive. Look into more cultural foods - my husband likes to make curries, lots of dishes with lentils, and stir-fried veggies with rice. Vegetarian chili is very easy and cheap to do.

Tofu is great because it can be manipulated and put into different dishes - I use it as a cheese substitute in lasagna and stuffed shells.

Also, please make sure to get on a multi-vitamin while you sort out your diet. Making a huge change by becoming vegetarian, it can take a lot of time to find a healthy diet and you don't want to miss out on any important nutrients.
