Vegetarians and Vegans- why don't you report the trolls?!
If you dislike these posts, flag the troll with "block user" and quit responding to them. They will go away.
Answers: If it is insulting or offensive, please report it and help get it removed.

I just ignore them all, it won't make any difference because I've noticed most have like 5 - 6 ID's running. Also if you have ever voted for an answer, I have noticed that they vote for themselves with their ID's... they have a really dumb answer like "eat carrots" and then vote 5, 6 votes for themselves. So it's a lose-lose situation. They just make new ID's and get angrier and keep spamming the V&V.
They just want to hurt people with their intolerance in the end. It's not worth it to let them get a rise out of you. They can't coexist peacefully, they are the sort of people that cause all the problems in the world - they just CAN'T exist alongside those that are different from them. They have to constantly spout prejudiced hogwash and put down those that are different. Hate and insecurity motivates them.
Plus I don't answer them once I find out they're a troll... I sometimes get conned into giving a decent, heartfelt answer now and then but soon learn my lesson.
Trolls typically block me because they don't want my viewpoint in their answers, because if I'm going to respond to a troll I'll obviously have a REAL GO at them and say what I think, and point out that they're a troll.
Did you notice that trolls answer their own questions with their multiple ID's? Like Skully wrote a typical Skully-esque question and her other ID, Common Sense, wrote back "oh you're so fair and balanced and smart, you bring such balance to this stale old forum". What a laugh! I think it's some sort of mental illness really to talk to oneself in one's own question.
Just ignore it... I am not getting caught up in it.
I do not respond to trolls anymore, I also DO report them, but nothing happens! And I most certainly block the user. I do not know why people respond to obviously rude and offense *questions*.
The trolls are the worst in the V&V group and in the LGBT section, and Yahoo! teams seems to allow it, they don't block their IP or anything...
If only it were that easy. A group of trolls (might actually only be 1-2 people) has been harassing people here for 9 months minimum.
Do report them of course.
I don't know why they wouldn't report them.
Have you ever notice how many new accounts keep turning up in this area compared to the others that are posting??
I agree with you. To just not reply to the question - it will indeed go away. What is really wild is to see the many replies that they will give to a known 'troll' - all complaining while posting - thus only adding fuel to the fire.
A mature approach - such as you suggest - does seem a better choice than the nightmare that seems to be going on around here lately.
We do report them dear. Often, though, the staff allow insulting questions with rude, abusive and offensive language to remain posted. You should take this up with the staff if you're bothered by it. We're doing the best we can. I reported one question last week that suggested that vegans should commit mass suicide and used the F word - YA allowed it to remain. Sometimes we respond to them because other people read the questions and answers; as frustrating as it is, if we let only the trolls answer the trolls, someone is going to come away from YA with a distorted picture of what veg*nism is and I'd rather try to inject some factual, rational information in there to combat that.
I know this is gona sound really st*pid of me... but what exactly is a troll??? I get that they are trouble makers but i'm not really sure who's a troll and who is asking legitimate questions sometimes.
I do tend to report offensive posts or things that I feel have broken Y!A's guidelines. In the little box of comments I would normally type "insulting another member" and within 5 minutes, the post has been deleted.
As for trolls... they're not worth the effort. A few times I have let a snide comment slip, but only with the purpose of belittling the person. Otherwise, I tend not to bother confronting them.
They're only doing it to make themselves feel bigger & better and taking the bait is just encouraging them. They're doing it to get a rise/reaction... if you respond, you're validating their behaviour.

On a slightly related note... some people who pose questions in the V&V forum are not necessarily trolls, but curious people. Sparking debate doesn't not necessarily equal intentionally malicious posts. People have different opinions about things and it's bound to cause controversy. I don't think there's anything wrong with allowing meat eaters into this section because I don't feel that anyone has the right to have an exclusive little clique on Y!A.
