I can hardly remember the school caf...other then french fries, but I went to give a talk at a high school last week with a lawyer from my office, and they gave us a free lunch....I am veg so I didn't eat it, but it was so nasty, mashed potatoes with peas and ground beef, this pasta soup that was cooked for so long the pasta was a gelatinous mush, and pudding with a mountain of whipped cream...Man, I didn't know it could be so bad.

I can't see why a caf. couldn't do vegan, pasta and veggie sauce, vegan sandwiches....you should go for it, fight the power :)

I agree with you, OHWell does seem uneducated, she seems a little intolerable to other peoples differences, I sure hope they don't let people like her breed :)

Well, you know the saying about one person being able to make a difference, so go for it. However I hope you're just asking for some vegan choices and not trying to get rid of everything else. That is asking for trouble, plus it seems a bit presumptuous. No one like someone on a soap box.

if you don't like what school serves then take your lunch.....that is what you should do

Yes I have, and it worked.
Here is how you do it:

Leave vegetarian and veganism out of it- it paints you as fringe and will never win over the stiffs on the school board.
(and NEVER mention animal rights!)

Your spin is health. The meals they provide aren't good for you, aren't fresh, aren't nutritionally balanced, are low in fiber, contain trans-fat, what ever...
(some research required here- keep track of what they offer for lunch every day for a month, than find out the nutritional info online- really easy if your school has things like KFC and Papa John's.)

Then you get a bunch of students, teachers, parents together and request a SALAD BAR.

Keep track of everything you do, who you talk to, what they said, and then- win or lose- write it up for the school paper.

And take heart, the meals in college are much better!

Good for you for wanting todo this. I grew up in England, and there were always veggie meals. Infact they were much healthier too!

I wish you luck, keep on trying and never give up!

As for people like Ohwell, erm,, you seem very uneducated to me! please go back to school and try to learn a few things. Aslo in your personal life try to learn respect and kindness.

A great effort and ambitious mission. Why not.

My son (9 y/o) is trying to form a "vegan hobby club" at his school. Everyone there is pretty anxious what is "vegan" all about. In my country the meat-politic, religious stigma and "meat"ing culture is very strong. You would not believe that none of the children in his school are taught about vegetarianism. Yet, my son is a Vegan.

Women, Children, scholars and professionals are more likely to become vegetarians if they come to know the “truth” about meat.

I think your idea is ignorant. It would be like me writing a letter to the school trying to get all the menu items switched to meat.
I do think you would have a problem with that dear.
