Would you agree that veganism is misplaced in the food and drink section?!

Question: Veganism is the philosophy of not exploiting animals (human and nonhuman) not just a diet, although this is the number one way of reducing exploitation, veganism is also concerned with vivisection, fur, leather and other clothes, exploitation in entertainment, hunting and many other issues.

Putting veganism in the food and drink section undermines veganism, making it appear as a mere diet. Many people believe veganism is just about eating habits, a misconception many are working hard at to defeat.

I do agree. Veganism is not to be confused for vegetarianism.

You see, people have different reasons for being vegetarian, whether it for health issues or for some of the ideals that veganism professes in not killing or exploiting animals. But vegetarianism is moreover a diet. Not all vegetarians would abstain from buying animal products nor share all the beliefs that vegans live by.

Veganism is a whole belief system, the ones of whom who follow it all sharing the same ideals about not exploiting or killing animals. It does include eating non-animal products, but merely eating what vegans eat does not make you one.

Veganism is a philosophy and diet, not just a diet. It cannot be just one or the other.

*In response to "trenardy" - I would describe you as a vegetarian. Duh. You may follow a vegan diet, but that does not automatically make you a vegan. I suggest reading this person's question a few times so you can clearly grasp what he is trying to say, and not just spouting off nonsense. Instead of badgering me for not thinking the way you do, you should try answering his question. I'm not the one who looks like the fool here.

No, you still ingest food. Keeping Kosher is a part of Judaism but it would be under food as well. Same reason. It's mainly about the food.

I think that you could ask questions concerning vegans under philosophy if you would like to.

“Veganism is a philosophy and diet, not just a diet. It cannot be just one or the other”............................

Well moofu49 – then how would you describe me?

I follow a vegan “diet”

(i.e.)

No animal flesh
No dairy
No eggs
No honey
etc…….

but I still buy leather shoes and wool jumpers.

Given there are different levels of veganism, surely it is fine to have vegan ideas and recipes under this section.

For some (like me) it is only about good eating habits for health reasons. For others, it is about the whole kit and caboodle.

What words do you use to differentiate between the various vegan fractions?

Hard-core? Fundamentalism? Committed?

I don’t know. You will have to tell me.

.

I agree. First time I came in here I looked for veganism in Society -Culture and other, but I was surprised to know it was under food & drink.

I wholeheartedly agree with you, but when I look for a vegan forum it's usually under the food section of a website. If it was under lifestyles I probably wouldn't find it because all sites use it under cooking/food.

But maybe there should be a whole category named vegan with branches under that. Whadda ya say?

:)

Yes, V&V must have "AUTOMATED-LINK" over all these sections below...

Only you and people like you seem to fail to make the distinction. I suppose looking down from your nose at the rest of the "mere mortals" makes things a lot more difficult. I suggest that if you find this forum unsatisfactory, that you start your own site.

From what i can tell from the way you describe yourself, it fits more in the "religion" section. Or maybe the occult.
