Pork chops in the freezer for over a year are they safe to eat?!

Question: There was a little freezer burn on them but not bad. they were dated June 2006. I am worried because I do not eat anything thats is 2 days old but my boyfriend says that they do not smell but I do not want my 2 year old to eat them and get sick....are they still good if they have been in the freezer for over a year?

No. Eating them would be as poor an idea as asking this question to the vegers.

no that's disgusting. throw them out.

They should've been thrown out over a year ago. "IF" they are completely vacuum sealed, then the MAXIMUM is one year and that's if they were not previously frozen. Most meat from the supermarket has been.

This is now three months from being TWO YEARS OLD, so please throw them out. The fact that there's freezer burn tells you they weren't properly wrapped.

A good rule of thumb is Meats 3-6 months IF properly sealed. Chicken 3-6 months. Seafood 1-2 months.

Around here we live by "If there's a doubt, just throw it out!"

Good luck!

Yuck. That's horrible. You definitely should throw it away.

They would be ok to eat. From a microbiological standpoint no organisms of consequence can grow at freezer temperatures so you do not have to worry about bacteria (and I assume that's the essence of your question).

Frankly year old meat is pushing it from a quality standpoint. And especially when you mention freezerburn. It suggests improper packaging. The meat won't hurt you and won't make you or anyone else sick but it might not taste too good and also the texture will be somewhat altered for the worse.

so good luck

I wouldnt think they would still be good...

I wouldnt trust any food that is a year old...

Maybe thats just me though. :-)

Good luck with your pork chops!

Please pay attention to what area you are posting your question in. This area is for question to do with the vegetarian/vegan lifestyle. i.e. No Meat.

Thanks

That said, Pork chops should be frozen no more than 6 months. Throw them away.

I think you should eat it! well you already paid for the cruel death, so it would be a waste to not eat it now. Also, the other meats you are eating are also unhealthy, so why stop at a little freeze burn, Eat it! I dare ya!

Why put that in the "vegetarian & vegan" section,
smfhb. it's bad anyway and next time,
when you are going to put some questions about meat like how bad are they in the fridge and some crap like that, put it in the "General - Food & Drink" section. gosh.

Why, oh why, would you put this in the Vegetarian & Vegan section. We don't care about your pork chops. We tend to think they weren't "good" when you put them IN the freezer.

When in doubt, throw it out. I'd rather be out the cost of some chops than submit my kids to eating bad food. Food poisioning can be lethal in small children. I wouldn't risk it.

throw it out!!

The fellow with the PhD is absolutely correct. Your boyfriend is correct as well. Using your common sense... the snif test is not far off, if it smells ok it most likely is good to eat.

We have frozen meat from our farm and sometimes is up to two to three years old before we clean out the freezer and the meat is fine, a little freezer burnt but still good. As long as it stayed frozen you should have no problem. If there is any questions be sure it is well cooked and that would take out any doubt.

No, especially if they are white and very crystallized on the edges. They will have a funny smell too. Not a rotten meat smell, but a freezer smell.
I don't keep any type of meat in my freezer for more than 6 months or so.

They weren't safe to eat in June 2006! Do you have any idea how many antibiotics and pesticides and hormones you're consuming?
