Nutrients needed from meat?!
Oh I also already take a mulivitamin, calcium, omega 3-6-9 and vitamin B12 complex....ok thanks!
Answers: For some reason lately I have been eating less and less meat...occasionally i will eat some seafood or chicken, but for some reason i have been really turned off by it. I eat a lot of veggies and whole grains and some dairy - but i was just wondering what I am lacking because Im not eating the proper amount of meat? I know protein but is there anything else I should be taking? And can you take protein in a pill-form?

You're doing fine! Did you know that 100 calories of broccoli has double the protein of 100 calories from a steak! Most people don't realize that if you replace meat with green veggies you will get more than enough protein and many, many more nutrients that meat does not have. The only thing you need to make sure to get is vitamin B-12, and you already do so you are doing great! Good luck!!
you can get amino acids in pill form. That should amount to a kind of protein supplement.
Cesar C knows NOT what he's talking about.
If he did, he would know that there are people who go without meat their entire lives and are VERY healthy!
You're right to be taking the B12 and a multivitamin. If you decide to cut out meat completely do a little more research, but you've covered the basics.
Iron--you can get it from green leafy veggies, like spinach but it also comes in a pill. I don't eat any meat and just found out I'm slightly anemic.
It doesn't sound like you are lacking anything. There is nothing in meat that can't be gotten from a different ( and more effiecient) source.
Hey Cesar C did you know that Cesar Chavez was a vegan? He worked to bring together the United Farm Workers union and he didn't eat any meat or dairy.
Is lardy fat a nutrients? cause you always get loads of that from meat!
The extra vitamins you're already taking are fine (those are the ones I take) but you may want to add an iron pill as well.
Make sure you supplement your lack of meat with a meat alternative, such as tofu. There's some really great "fake meat" out there! I don't eat meat at all but my bf eats some. He says he can't tell the difference between a lot of the "ground beef" and things like that that I use to cook.
if you take a multivitamin you should be good to go. just make sure your replacing the protein (beans, tofu, "fake" meat products, etc.) and getting a lot of veggies.
There's nothing in meat you can't get elsewhere, and you'll do your body a whole lot of good by cutting out the bacteria, saturated fat, cholesterol and carcinogen ridden rotting animal flesh. More importantly, you'll be causing less suffering!
It's true that plant protein can be harder to absorb, but you just need to balance it right. Eat lots of nuts, beans, fungi and potatoes, that should do the trick. You shouldn't need any pills or shakes or anything.
Here's a funny fact - anemia can be caused by eating flesh! For some reason, it prevents you from absorbing iron normally.
Rivers' tip of the day: Use an iron skillet/frying pan - it'll add iron to anything you cook in it!
There's nothing in meat you can't get elsewhere. If you're still eating animal products (ANY animal products, dairy counts) you don't need to supplement b12. Not to mention it stores in your body for 20-30 years. It's not something you'd have to take daily. Once in a while is perfectly fine. Whole foods will always be much better resources for nutrition than pills.
Do your research, educate yourself. No one can do it for you. Good luck.
you need meat to to be strong to work, you need calories to live
