How much soy is in your diet?!

Question: How much soy do you consume? And if not much what do you eat? (vegan foods please) I am trying to eat less soy, but trying to get all the nutrients I need!

Eat whole grains and beans or nuts instead of tofu or soy. Quinoa, brown rice, bulgur, millet, are all awesome. Also I always keep a couple cans of beans around the house. You never know when you will have to participate in a neighborhood bean fight!

Very little. I consume mostly raw foods- vegetables, fruit, nuts, etc. Most nutrients can be found in dark leafy greens, tree nuts, broccoli and other produce.

About once a month we'll be out someplace (like the Flying Saucer) and I'll break down and get a "Hippie Burger."

We have soy milk in our house. We eat it with cereal and in fruit shakes or with non-whey protein powder. However, you can use rice or almond milk instead.

If you eat fake meat, it is hard to find any without soy. You are also cutting yourself off from tofu which is typically a big staple for veg's, particularly to get protein. That's when the non-whey protein powder shakes can really come in handy, because they are vegan (whey is a dairy product).

Try finding recipies for nutburgers. Falafel is awesome, too. Don't forget hummus. Actually, lots of Indian food is soy free, but vegan.

Yum. I'm hungry now. :)

well, i use soy only for baking and stir fry.

I eat loads of grains. black beans, lima beans, chickpeas, kidney beans etc,,,

I eat veggie grilled pizza, veggie sandwiches, rice, and loads beans. loads. I eat salad, fruits, and of course cupcake. I also eat loads of nuts too.

I use almond milk, I like that more.

I replace eggs, with silken tofu in my baking, cake, cookies, cupcakes etc,,

I drink a glass or two of soy milk now and then, probably no more than 4 cups a week, and I have tofu or tempeh 2 - 3 times a week... so I guess that means an average of 1 soy product a day. That's not too bad. I like cooking with beans more, and I make my own seitan at home.

A massive amount. Soy milk, soy yogurt, soy burgers and other fake meats, soy sauce, tofu, soy whipped cream, vegan soy margarine, soy ice cream........... and more, I think.

The more soy I eat the better I feel. I eat soy at least 5 times a day.

I love soy milk but I have replaced it due to a thyroid problem, I use hemp & rice milk now mainly. I also eat tofu pretty much daily. Soy burgers, tempeh, etc I don't have often.

For the nutrients you can get from other sources than soy look here:

Soybeans have a lot of nutrients in them and are good for you, but hearing from many sources too much soy isn't good, but *too much* varies from person, and of course if you are allergic or have a thyroid problem it is best to avoid or limit your soy intake. Soy has it's debates, it is good to have soy in your diet (if your health permits so) but not too much.

Well, I love beans, and chickpeas. So I get protein from that.
As for soy, I have a veggie burger, or a few chik'n nuggets every now and then. I usually drink soy milk at least 1-2 times a day, for cereal mostly.

i get about 40 grams of soy!

NONE. Ugh.

I have a bowl of dry Cheerios (well, the Hill Country Fare equivalent) and a cup of coffee for breakfast, most of the time. Today, it was two slices of toast with that "I can't believe it's not butter" stuff, because I didn't want to tear up my toast with real butter. Stuff gets hard when it's in the ice box. Lessee...what else...oh, I had a cookie. Craisin/oatmeal, and another cup of coffee. Gonna have a frozen TV dinner for lunch tonight (I'm at work)...B-B-Q chicken with mashed potatoes and sweet corn, and a bottle of strawberry/kiwi water. I doubt that I'll stop by Whataburger for mu usual, a cheeseburger with mayo only and Dr Pepper. Weekends, it's whatever I can scrounge up. But it's Cannoli Joe's Italian buffet tomorrow. They serve a killer lasagne.

Large amounts of soy are very bad for you. This has been known to us true vegans for centuries.

Our oriental brothers and sisters use soy as a condiment, not as a main staple in their diet, as others have said. Eating large amounts of soy and soy products is a phenomenon of the silly wannabe vegans and wannabe vegetarians who do not understand the ancient wisdom of true vegans.
