Vegetarians and vegans who are into the lifestyle for health reasons.?!

Question: Tell me something okay. Are you in the vegetarian or vegan life for health? IF so do you drink beer, or wine? Do you smoke? While not a vegetarian I do agree that if done correctly a vegetarian diet is the healthiest diet possible, but if and only if done correctly. I eat less meat than the average meat eater, and have gone from 2 weeks to 1 full year of being vegetarian. I may be vegetarian again some time in the future. I mean although a vegetarian diet is great, there are other things you can eat, drink or consume that is as bad or worse for your body than meat. It doesn't make since to me to be a vegetarian and eat 2 doughnuts every day for breakfast if you claim vegetarian for health reasons right. Hey I am really looking for some feedback on this. I know that not everyone has a perfect diet so I am just curious.

I am a vegan for health reasons (amongst many others). I occasionally drink a glass or two of organic wine (with no sulfates added). This type of wine is actually not bad for you in moderation. I don't smoke. I try to eat food that is as least processed as possible, organic and mostly raw. It is amazing the world off possiblities that open up to you (foodwise), when you really delve into this path. When you fill your diet with nutrient-packed, enzyme loaded amazing plant foods, you actually stop craving all the overly-processed, nutrient depleted, chemical & preservative-laden junk. You feel great too. It does take time to change one's habits though. Good luck.

The ones who are in strictly for health reasons are not the ones pounding back doughnuts and fast food veggie burgers.

I know vegetarians who don't eat meat for religious reasons. They're a little less concerned about the healthy reasons for being vegetarian. I also know people who are in it because they believe it is wrong to kill animals. They seem to be the ones who are the least concerned about health.

Drinking wine is not bad for your health. The health benefits of a moderate consumption of wine have been proven time and time again.

A drunk vegan sounds like more fun then a barrel of monkeys.

I am flex veg that does it for the health and ethical reasons.

example: I saw a cat walking down the street this morning. I didn't kick it. Even though I hate cats and wanted to. However, I will be eating lobster (no butter) tonight with my lovely supermodel girlfriend. Those two statements makes me a flex veg for health and ethical reasons.

i became a vegetarian for my love of animals and to get healthy and in better shape. i only really ate chicken and seafood to begin with and i very rarely even did so it was easy for me to give them up. i do not drink beer but i love a glass of wine every now and then with dinner. and i gave up all sweets, as hard as it is to do so i manage to some how stay clear of all junk food. i substitute meat for portabella mushroom patties, tofu or eggplant cutlets and i live off of vegtables, black beans and fruit. so overall i'd say i make sure im getting protien and tons of healthy vitamins and nutrients.

Sure there are things far worse than meat... strychnine and benzene come to mind right off hand.
However, I eat as healthy as possible, occasionaly having a beer or two, but I stick mostly to a glass of red wine again for potential health benifits. But who knows, the access I have to cardiologists to pick their brains may well be my downfall. I'll still take their advice until something more definitive comes along. As for the rest of it, I am in extremely good health. I however chose a vegetarian diet as best for me because of the damage I know that can be done to the cardiovascular system. As I said before, eating it every once in a while is not going to do you any harm, but that's no more a reason for me to eat it than it is to jump off the roof because it will probably only break my leg and compress my spine from the second floor. I just eliminated it alltogether. I have no quams with the fact that a little meat won't kill you... It's just not for me.

Cause their gay homosexuals.

Your right, there are other great foods than veggies all the time!:-)

The people who are vegetarians because it's healthy are probably not the ones eating donoughts for breakfast and beer for dinner. The ones doing that are more likely the ones in it for moral reasons. (Not ALL - I'm just saying that's more likely.)

I've been vegetarian for most of my life mainly for moral reasons. The health issue is second, but still important. (As is the environmental side, but that's another topic.) I don't drink alcohol, smoke, do drugs, etc. I'm actively fit and get a lot of exercise.

I think the problem is when some people get rid of meat, they feel that that act alone is good enough. But then they replace the meat with junk and not other healthy alternatives.

if your a veggie for health reasons i highly doubt your going to eat 2 donuts for breakfast. your probably concerned about your health in general. alchohol in moderation, and most things in moderation or as "rewards" in a diet are fine. it is healthy. meat in general is very bad for you.
