i would highly recommend trying the "fake" meats out there. brands off the top of my head that you can find at any old shopright, foodtown, or grocery store are morningstar, gardenburger, boca, amys, quorn (freezer section) and yves and lightlife (in produce section). they make soy/fake versions of everything like hot dogs, ribs, chicken nuggets, chicken tenders, buffalo wings, corn dogs, sausage patties, bacon, ground meat, steak strips, chicken strips, ground sausage, and of course burgers. they even have fake meatballs, and deli meats (bologna, turkey, ham...). i might even be missing a few but you can see the variety. i pretty much can take any meal i used to eat with meat and substitute in a fake meat so i never feel like i'm missing anything. i'll put the ground meat in spaghetti sauce or use meatballs and have the same pasta dish i had before. i put the chicken strips in a wrap with cheese, salsa, and lettuce and have a wrap. add the steak strips to some stir fried veggies. bring hot dogs and burgers to a bbq and watch how fast they disappear from meateaters eating them!!! (half the time they eat them and don't even realize it was veggie until i tell them!).

also don't forget about beans and tofu. i'm not a tofu expert and barely eat it but there's a lot you can do with it. i'll bake it and add it in with mixed steamed veggies and a whole wheat pasta with pesto sauce for a delicious meal. or i'll get it and add it to a veggie stir fry. beans can be added to almost anything. i recently made a veggie chili and it was amazing. i used 2 types of beans, the fake ground meat (although you could skip this), variety of veggies, chopped tomatos, salsa, chili seasoning. awesome and packed with protien!

great soups are lentil, split pea, and minestrone. fairly easy to make, very good and very healthy. also good for meateaters.

and for snacks fruit or veggies with peanut butter or hummus are really good. i also like falafel. if you haven't tried i recommend :) (ground chickpeas with seasonings considered mediteranean food i think)

i hope that helps you! of course eat lots of veggies and fruits too :) i used to hate veggies and now i've found so many i love and so many new cuisines and meals that i really enjoy. buy a cook book and just start experimenting with different things until you find what you really like!

everything you need is right there. :)

If you have a desire to eat meat you could try Quorn food, which has a similar taste. If you want to be a veg you do not need to cut down on milk and cheese, that is only needed if you want to be a vegan.

well........im a vegetarian but because of my religion...since its part of my culture i find a wide variety of food to eat.
if you like spicy and exotic food, try and Indian resturant
also, go to your local bookstore because there are TONS of vegetarian cookbooks

you need to make sure you still get protein and other nutrients that meat would have. Nuts, beans and stuff is a good source.

But to tell the truth I loooove morning star farms veggie sausage and patties, their grillers are good and boca burger italian sausage and vegan burgers are yummmy.

I am not vegetarian but my diet restricts some things. I could never go without cheese or milk. Though their are many nonmilk products like silk. I am just a cheeeese lover.

best wishes with you vegetarianism

Do your research. You should know this stuff before you consider yourself vegetarian. You should be eating a varied diet with lots of fresh produce. What makes you think the vitamins you need but aren't getting are C, E, and D? Read. Educate yourself. No one can do it for you. Google is a wonderful thing.

If you really didn't want to give up on eating cheese or drinking milk (or even dairy products like ice cream and such), then you could still eat them -- but only as a vegetarian and not a vegan.

goveg.com!

You can drink Soy Milk, use tofu & tempeh instead of meat.

Enjoy! :)

Whats wrong with eating meat? Enjoy your life and go to a good BBQ!

I don't know about any websites but I still drink milk and eat cheese because I'm afraid if I don't my body will lack protein and I will be tempted to start eating meat all together.
An other thing if you are feeling tempted to begin eating meat again, stare at butcher shops and meat aisles. It really helps !
Good luck !

Check out the Mooswood Restaurant Cookbooks (see Amazon.com or some other site). I also agree with the individual who suggested trying meat-like vegetarian products. Veg burgers are the bomb.

There is a section on Vegetarian/Vegan cooking and nutrition--this myspace page is a list of websites and has links to a wide variety of resources available. I think they're in alphabetical order, so scroll down to the V section--there are about 15 or 20 websites just on vegetarianism if I remember correctly.
