Vegetarian and vegans...?!
Another question... Do plants feel pain? What about when you pull their leaves or fruit out?
Answers: I don't get why people become vegetarian or vegan. I am a vegetarian because i don't want animals to die ect. but if you eat vegetables, you kill the plant and there are not much plants in the world. I just don't get it!

I think your question about veganism is basically- but dairy and eggs don't actually harm animals, right?
There is a brilliant answer posted by Drasch23 on veganfaq.blogspot.com which is below:
1. I don't know which is worse, being brought into the world solely for slaughter or being brought into the world to be used for your milk/eggs and then slaughtered. Put very simply, when a dairy cow can no longer produce milk, she is slaughtered and made into cheap beef. Same with chickens. When they no longer lay eggs, they are slaughtered. Plain and simple. This applies to organic, free-range, and factory farmed.
2. One word - Veal. I assume that any one reading this would know what veal is, but if not I will explain it to you. In order to produce milk, a cow must give birth (no, cows aren't just milk machines, they give milk for the same reasons humans do). If the cow gives birth to a female, that female is raised to also produce milk. If it gives birth to a male, that bull is raised for veal. This means that the calf is confined to a crate just big enough for him to stand up and turn around. He is given formula to ensure that he doesn't build up too much muscle. While we take the milk intended for him. No thanks.
3. Related to Number 2 (sort of). When male chicks are born in a layer house, they have no economic value. They are often ground up alive, suffocated, or simply thrown in a dumpster. Reading this statement makes my stomach turn.
4. It greatly decreases the lifespan of the animal. A cow can live to be well into it's thirties. The average age of a dairy cow is 5.
5. Its cruel. In other words, we do not need these products to survive and forcing cow/chicken to live in such horrible conditions simply because we like the way something tastes is wrong.
Also from same website are 3 reasons why plants cannot feel pain (posted by Reverence Lily on veganfaq.blogspot.com)
Behavioural: Even mollusks will pull away from a painful touch. Clams will snap closed; bees will start stinging more easily; fish will writhe. Yet, plants do none of these things. Part of the reason that we know animals feel pain is that they show it - yes, even cows, if you know what to look for! Plants cannot scream, writhe, pull away, or move at all to get away from pain. This leads us to the next segment...
Evolutionary: Plants can't move. They can grow, but they can't move. (Corals are, believe it or not, collections of animals, so they don't count.) So why would they have any reason to develop or retain the ability to feel pain? Not only that, but being in pain constantly - say, from being eaten by bugs - tends to send someone into shock, unable to function. All plants that had the ability to feel pain would have died out because they wouldn't have been able to function. Sure, they'd respirate and whatnot, but they wouldn't actually be able to do anything. And that leads us to the last segment...
Anatomical: Yes, surprisingly, having a central nervous system doesn't mean much (mollusks, clams, mussels, etc. can feel pain; they just react to it later because they have a nerve net rather than a CNS); having a nervous system does. One must have nerves that transmit pain to feel pain, as well as the neurotransmitters to feel pain with; and no, the veins you see on plant leaves are not nerves.
Well, I cannot answer most of your questions, but here it is:
I understand how you feel when you were talking about the plant's feelings and such. You are a very good person, believe me! But if you want to live you must eat plants. Besides, to compensate you can always grow a garden in your backyard!
Second: No, ou cannot be half vegetarian because if you eat meat half of the time you still eat meat. So you are not a vegetarian.
But, you can be something like a half vegetarian - just eat less meat! Buy half of the amount of meat you were going to buy.
Well...nothing has been proved about plants feeling pain yet so i wouln't worry.
Normally people who are referred to as half vegetarians and Aquatarians, who are people who will eat stuff like fish.
Vegans and vegetarians become so for several reasons. It may be ethics, religion, health, or environment.
You're question about plants is obviously ridiculous and I hope you're joking. But if you're serious, NO, plants don't feel pain and they are abundant. Plants could feed the world but most plants that are harvested are fed to animals that are savagely slaughtered for their flesh.
So basically, you can blame omnivores for all the starving children in the world.
If you are truly concerned about plants feeling pain, you should consider eating ice or dirt unless you also feel that they are sentient as well.
sweetie you have to eat something,it is gods will that we eat fruits and vegetables, wheat, grains, herbs and spices, I mean what would we eat!!,
lets just say that you pick a tomato or a orange you get to eat the fruits
but the plants still live. picking a fruit will not kill the plant.
I don't get why people become vegetarian or vegan. I am a vegetarian because i don't want animals to die ect. but if you eat vegetables, you kill the plant and there are not much plants in the world. I just don't get it!
THERE ARE PLENTY OF PLANTS.
Another question... Do plants feel pain?NO THEY DON'T, THEY DON'T HAVE ANY NERVOUS TISSUE. What about when you pull their leaves or fruit out? NOT EVEN THEN.

Can someone be half vegetarian? NO, EITHER YOU EAT ANIMALS OR YOU DON'T. NO MIDDLE GROUND.
Can someone be vegetarian and still eat saefood (me) and what is it called? NO, SEAFOOD IS STILL ANIMALS. ANY ANIMALS AND YOU AREN'T A VEGETARIAN. YOU MAY CONSIDER THAT A PESCETARIAN OR A PESCEVORE.
What is in gelatine? IT IS THE EXTRACTED COLLAGEN(CONNECTIVE TISSUE) Is it meat? IT IS ANIMAL SO YOU COULD SAY THAT.
yes... u can eat seafood and still be a vegetarian ( i should know cuz i am one! well actualy im a vegan but same difference!) no... there isn't any special name for it
gelatin is made of crushed up horse hooves and bones.(disgusting)
its groce but it isn't meat. FYI- some things that have gelatin in them r jello and marshmallows
also; a heads up; the creamy stuff that they put in the middle of twinkies has animal fat and the oil that they use at mc donalds (some of it at least) contains beef fat.
i know u didnt ask about that but i just thought i'd giv u heads up! just in case ur groaced out by eating animal fat!
hope this helpz!
Well, I am also like Half-Vegetarian. I hate to think that animals get killed just so we could eat lots of meat (more than you should) and just get fat. That's a horrible thing! That's why I take care of myself. But still, I only eat a little bit of meat every once in a while cause my mom makes me because if you only eat vegetables, you live less and I don't wanna live a shorter life. But anyway, I don't think plants feel pain cuz even though they are "alive" they don't actually feel like we do. So it's ok.
Plants do not feel pain because they they do not have brain or nervous system. They can always grow more plants
"I don't get why people become vegetarian or vegan."
Gee, you don't sound like a vegetarian.
There are plenty of plants. No they do not feel pain.
Did you know that it takes ELEVEN pounds of grain to produce one pound of beef? So if you eat meat, you're eating more plants anyway.
If we quit cycling the world's food supply through cattle, we could easily end world hunger.
"yes... u can eat seafood and still be a vegetarian ( i should know cuz i am one! well actualy im a vegan but same difference!) "
WRONG. YOU ARE NOT VEGETARIAN AND YOU ARE NOT VEGAN. In fact, I think if you consider eating fish 'vegan' then there are probably a lot of other things you do that aren't vegan.
Do you have a lawn?
Do you mow your lawn?
If you believe plants feel pain then your inflicting it
upon your yard every time you mow.
And what about all the roses that die for Valentines Day?
Don't worry about it.
Animals do feel pain.
Even fish.
So the people who catch and release are causing pain too.

I am a vegetarian.
But I still allow things such as shrimp in my diet.
that gr8 that u do not eat meat but its x-pen-sev 2 buy viggies
all the time......
Here's the thing plants don't have feelings because they don't actually say anything right? but other animals have feelings so it's nice to be a vegitarian but plants are ment to be cut or taken apart so don't feel bad okay?
Um.... you DO know that the animals you eat (you DO eat animals, so you aren't vegetarian) consume multiple times as many plants as a human does, right?
No. You can't eat animals and be a vegetarian.
Plants do not have central nervous systems. How old are you? I suggest if you're older than 11 go back to 5th grade and take that science class again.
If you have an issue with killing plants then go fruitarian.
plants do not feel pain...
no you cannot be a vegetarian if you eat seafood...that is called pescetarian
the definition of vegetarianism is "the practice of a diet that excludes ALL animal flesh..."
gelatin is basically crushed animal skins, bones, and tendons
gelatin is definately NOT vegetarian and is in a lot of foods and products you wouldnt expect...
it is in marshmallows, jello, jelly, many types of candy, and in some glue, some make up, and some other things i cant remember right now...
but it is not in jam or preserves which is just like jelly basically...
ur ******* gay
