I believe the "slander" you're talking about doesn't actually come from veg*ans at all. It comes from trolls pretending to be veg*ans in order to post "their vile bashing" and give veg*ans a bad name. These trolls (or rather, THIS troll, as it's mostly likely just the one person) often use the names "Ashley" and "Christy", amongst others.

Most (non-fake) veg*ans couldn't give a toss what you eat, and wouldn't resort to insulting non-veg*ans, unless severely provoked.

because when nobody pays attention to you in the real world, when you have no real life, when you have no power over anything else, then the internet provides the acceptance and feeling of self worth that your real life is missing. But as they are cowards in real life, they are also cowards in the virtual world. I can almost picture them dancing with joy at the fact that they were able to report and have a question or answer deleted. Somehow, it gives some semblance of meaning to an otherwise empty and lonely life. At lest fo 5 mins anyway.

Actually quite the opposite. Omnis come into the VEG section and proclaim their love for meat and that we are the stupid ones. If you are making snide remarks about vegetarians and vegans, of course you are going to get negative comments back.

Anyone can call themselves anything they like on here. Some people just like to stir things up for fun. IRL I've never come across a vegetarian/vegan who actively tries to convert or calls you names for eating meat (not once they get past age 14 anyway :0) ) I have a colleague who is a vegan, she doesn't proselytise but she is happy to answer sensible questions on her lifestyle choice.

They are the same type of people that nazis recruited or that skin heads are now recruiting. Mindless automatons, intolerant of dissent or dissenting opinion. Their arrogance and narrow mindedness indicates a person who lacks knowledge, understanding and tolerance. Sensible people are open to new ideas, if not for adoption, a least for educated discussion. Those who thumb down or those who report anonymously are probably just as obnoxious and bigoted in real life.

It would help if you could indicate which questions and responses you're referring to. I assume you posted something that was deleted as a violation? That happens on every Section of YA - there are some people who will report anything they don't like, and because of YA's absurd 'trusted reporter' system, the posts they report get deleted.

Not sure who has been doing the 'vile bashing', but do bear in mind that this section has a handful of trolls (well, less than a handful because some have multiple identities), some of whom pretend to be vegan and post stupid posts to discredit vegans. You can spot them easily, firstly because they usually describe ridiculous scenarios and ask what they should do, and secondly because they almost always use the words 'moral/immoral' and 'true vegan'. Don't bother to respond to that rubbish, it's fake.

And a number meat-eaters use this site regularly, and engage in intelligent discussion with vegetarians and vegans, sometimes poking a wee bit of fun to make sure we don't take ourselves too seriously; the site would be a lot more boring without them.

I have had that kind of thing happen, but I'm a vegetarian and they were meat eaters.

There are several anti-vegetarians who just come to this forum to cause trouble. Some of them have written questions that contain obvious insults to specific people who post here regularly. Some imitate other people's accounts and pretend to be them in an attempt to make them look ridiculous. I have had some people write nasty emails to me. I have been reported for answers and I can't figure out why.

I spend a lot of time in the the Mental Health forum, it has trouble makers (but not as many as it did a few months ago). Religion and Spirituality is full of trouble makers. I'm sure there are people like that in every forum on Yahoo Answers, or at least most of them.

On this one, I have to agree with exsft.

Be it vegetarian, vegan, or one who eats meat, there are some that have no real life than what they can find on YA or similar places.

They lie, can say anything that they want to that has nothing to do with reality. Many times they even actually start to believe their lies and for a time might get others to believe it. Doesn't change the reality of real life, but then they really have no real life than what is seen online either.

I don't know why people post slander but it makes me sad. It's a shame we can't all just respect each others diets and live and let live.
We could learn a lot from each other if we weren't so insular about what we eat.
