Why would you not be a vegan?!
Answers: im vegan and i know all about its health benefits as well as its impact on the environment. but i'm writing a paper and i need to find reliable sources on why veganism is... bad. or why you wouldn't be a vegan, i guess. there are seriously no articles or anything anywere! (which makes it obvious that veganism is the best diet). anyone know any cartoons or anything that bash vegans? it'd help. a lot. :)
It's hard for me to even come with a lot of cons, but the best I can come up with:
http://www.foodreference.com/frvideos/ht...
This is a video clip that's HILARIOUS, it makes fun of what vegans have to contend with eating when going out, and then "vegan cuisine"... it's just funny, not exactly a huge con but it's funny!
Also, you could write about how it might be hard to find B12 sources, and vitamin D3 sources (well, except for sunlight of course). But if you're vegan you already know that there are B12 sources aplenty.
Also, there is very little vegan junk food and fast food available... oh no! What will we do without drivethroughs? *wink*
If you want cons, I guess wait until trolls answer this question because the cons they come up with will make your pros even stronger and make your paper all the more convincing and persuasive towards the vegan side :)!
Im a vegan and honestly I don't know why anyone wouldn't be. You can buy soy milk and cheese and yogart that tastes the exact same as the regular stuff. Its a personal choice. But I recommend going vegan because I havn't had a single headache or sniffle. And I feel GREAT!
i respect other peoples lifestyle choices.
that being said, i wouldnt be a vegan because i love milk and cheeseburgers...but thats just me.
cause meat tastes way to good.lol veganism is the best diet but people choose to eat meat because it is so common everywhere. if you really think about it, it is really cruel and disgusting how we continue to eat meat. part of the problem is because we are taught that it is the right thing to do as children.
I guess I could be vegan because dead animal flesh and animal's milk does not appeal to me.
you miss out on major sources of calcium i.e dairy, and fish (like tinned sardines). low calcium = low bone density, osteoporosis etc.
your sources of protein are restricted. protein vital for cell repair and renewal. hair skin nails eyes etc.
b12 is non existant in non animal foods. its found in dairy and meats. vital to avoid pernicious anemia which can be hard to detect but leads to irreversible neurological damage.
if it wasnt for that then fine. socially though, its quite a bother if u go out for lunch dinner etc or go to a friends for dinner etc. its just another suggestion for ur paper!
I would love to go vegan but cheese still has a hold on me. The rest I can do without (0:
I am vegan, and I too can not think of the bad sides,. The cal. protein blahblah, can all be found in a vegan diet.
I am sure that the USDA, would be the biggest con's - oh wait they are con's heheheh.
Of course any agency that will lose profits from a vegan diet would be apposed to a vegan way of life. - but its more about profit then health! - but they will never say that.
I would not be vegan because I like meat, cheese and milk. I have nothing against vegans, but it is just not for me.
I couldn't be vegan because I am addicted to fresh buffalo mozzarella and to Greek yogurt, and no cheese or yogurt substitutes come even close.
Jokes aside, being vegan takes a lot of planning to make sure you're getting all the vitamins and minerals that your body needs. I work 60 hours a week and travel a lot, so it would be nearly impossible to find vegan/vegetarian versions that are quick, convenient, can be found everywhere, and can be eaten on the go.
Because in today's society we raise our kids on fat, lard, and just generally unhealthy foods. To go vegan means giving most of that up, a sacrifice many are not willing to take. Also going vegan isn't easy for those that don't have will power. A lot of Americans today are lazy and would prefer the 1 dollar cheeseburger at a mcdonalds drivethru for lunch versus packing your own food. I also believe that many people are under informed or misinformed about the dietary benefits that being vegan provides. They assume you NEED meat to be healthy! We all know you don't need cheese or milk. Both of which are absolutely disgusting, stomach lining and pus.
When it all comes down to it most of your answers here will be "because meat/cheese/milk/etc tastes good!", and will have no other REAL educational argument.
If you all did your research you would find out that you can get B12 in other places just as HERBIVORE cows do, vegans are not any more weaker than omnivores, there would not be an overpopulation of animals if everyone went vegan (WE BREED THEM FOR OUR GREEDY STOMACHS). I could go on but arguing with people about this is like trying to argue about religion. Its worthless with people who aren't open enough to listen.
Here you go- an entire website dedicated to anti-vegetarianism.

I feel like I need to take a shower now...
I can't live with out cheese thats why i am not a vegan!!!!
I'm a vegetarian at the moment and have felt like I want to go vegan but am struggling with the idea and here's my issues and some stuff that I think affect other people's distaste for veganism! ... (hope it helps!)
1. Soy milk. I've tried to like it so many times but I just can't. I absolutely detest the taste.
2. Ice-cream. For the same reason above. Immitations don't even come close.
3. Being a social leper and feeling alienated from your friends & family.
Without having a whole lot of vegan friends around me, it's difficult to go to friend's or even FAMILY's houses and be expected to eat. People already make a big deal out of me being vegetarian. Nobody wants to make a separate meal for the "difficult eater" and taking your own food is offensive to the person who's house you're visiting.
The same goes with inviting people... no matter how great your vegan dishes are, meat eaters will always dislike them before trying them and avoid accepting dinner invites! [It's true... I know from experience!!]
Restaurants is another example. There's normally 1-2 vegetarian dishes on the menu... what about vegan? Forget it. Yes, there might be a handful of vegan restaurants around, but I don't live close to a city area.
4. EXPENSE. While being on a low income, it's difficult to live on a vegan diet. Soy milk, soy cheese & organic fruit/veg are SO much more expensive than regular supermarket rubbish. Face it, it's much cheaper to eat trash.
Toiletries & cleaning products also come under this umbrella.
What can I say...? We live in a world that's pro-convenience.
5. Nutrition. While you and I know very well that you can have the most perfectly balanced diet being vegan, others can't even comprehend how that's possible and some people can't be bothered with learning.
6. Lots of people don't care about animal cruelty AND aren't interested in trying new things. They want the tastes they grew up with and have always eaten... the stuff their mum cooked for them when they were kids.
It's got to do with a feeling of safety! People don't want to be told that the way they've eaten their whole life is wrong. They don't want to believe that their parents, who are supposed to have taught them right from wrong, never taught them that harming an animal for the satisfaction of tastebud is cruel and unhumane.

Jen D - just reading through that link you posted. It's so ridiculous! I'm not picking on you... I'm picking on the idiot who wrote it. Ugh!
Ironically I use soy milk for my corn flakes and brown sugar. But I am no "vegan". And is for me normal to eat meat during evening. I don't see why I should be a "vegan". "Vegans" are fanatics. Vegetarians, moderately, I understand.
i think that people don't become vegan because it is not easy. they are so used to eating meat and don't know how to stay healthy without it. plus everyone thinks that all these bad things that happen to people that eat meat won't happen to them. mostly because people are lazy and uninformed.
The only reason you're going to get on why veganism is bad is because of personal taste. You're going to hear "I like meat/eggs/dairy too much!!"
The only true thing bad about veganism is society's ignorance regarding it.
I think the main reason people wouldn't be a vegan is because the majority of humans are born without birth defects.
no offense, I think I will stick to my hamburgers.
if everyone were vegan there would be mass overpopulation of pigs, cows and other animals. Also, since cow farts are causing global warming, anyone who doesn't eat beef is directly causing global warming.
so shame on you.
yea right. how about because it's not a healthy diet depending on your definition.

I see the thumbs down fruits and nuts are at it again
Omnivores are stronger than vegans.
I'm personally not a vegan because a vegan diet is deficient, unhealthy and unnatural. In addition to being deficient in protein, it is deficient in vitamin b12, omega 3 fatty acids and essential saturated fats and cholesterol (yes, fat and cholesterol are nutrients too.
Humans have been meat eaters since the dawn of time. There are over 2,5 million years in the fossil record showing human consumption of meat. Meat is easily digested raw with no ill effects unless the meat itself is bad.
On the other hand, most legumes are are poisonous unless cooked. Grain is indigestible unless cooked. In fact, aside from fruit and some root vegetables, most plants are indigestible to humans, unless cooked or otherwise processed.
Check the following links and read on. Some are written by former vegetarians and vegans.
