Why can't people understand?!

Question: Why do a lot of people not understand that animals feel emotional and physical pain and that some of us care greatly about that so we choose not to eat them? Why don't they even care and ridicule and mock us? Why do they call everything "propoganda"? Are they just naive and don't want to grasp that this is all real? Or are they just heartless people who don't care about animals or people? I say people because clearly they don't care about us trying to help animals. I am so sick of hearing about how we feel superior to meat eaters yet I have never met a veg in my life that feels that way. Why do they take our questions the wrong way in here? I wish they would all disapear. Sorry, these kinds of people make me feel very down sometimes, I have just dealt with 2 so-called friends making me feel wrong because I don't eat animals and I come in here and see the answers some people have given and it made me feel worse. I am sure they will be putting me down for this.

Unfortunately I do eat meat. But reading your question I do understand. Many people on here think its a competition to see who is the better vegan/vegetarian. Some people get right into it and others try to do their best on making sure they don't use animal products but sometimes cannot avoid doing so. Basically its annoying when people who don't eat meat go into the hunting section and harass us with their PETA videos of cows getting slaughtered. It gets old after a while. But....If you respect my way of life ultimately I will respect yours. Don't worry what others say. Why should you care? You have your beliefs and they have theirs. Obviously you are not one of those people who try to shove the whole vegan thing down peoples throats I can tell. Some people only think one sided and forget there is a diverse population who believe in different things as far as what we eat and what goes into the process between the farm and the dinner table. I am against what they are doing to the dolphins over in Asia though. I am a hunter but those poor dolphins are being slayed and tortured where they could get it done quickly without suffering. I don't condone animal suffering at all. I do hunt and fish but whatever I get its dealt with quickly and as painlessly as possible. But in the end my best advice for you is don't care what others think of your way of life. Just focus on what you want to gain from such a lifestyle while respecting others.

Good Luck

I'm only eating pasta by the way today.....Just for you! But it does have cheese in it :(

Who cares what other people think?! It's your life sweetie, and you live it however you want to, to hell with what anyone else says.

There will always be someone who will try to talk down to you no matter what choices you make in life. It's not worth your time or energy caring what they think.

Just keep in mind though, some of us don't agree with your views. We're not all trying to attack, but I'm not about to change my mind or lifestyle to avoid hurting someone else's feelings. Try not to take it personally if someone simply disagrees with you, and as for people in your life making you feel wrong, get rid of them! There's enough negativity in the world, you don't need it from the people who are supposed to be your friends.

I agree with you animals may not speak our languages but they are in pain and some do get mistreated, and of course it makes you cry. but with todays society they dont have the sense of feelings anymore its just a big money racket and they dont care like they used to.

bit of a minefield really
some people are defensive because they dont understand
some are because they know they dont have the courage to follow their convictions
and some are like it, because whether you like it or not, as with every "group" in life, there are those extremists who make the headlines, that spoil things for the majority, and that happens in any walk of life, be they begetarians, vegans, religion etc etc
and these people are the ones in the spot light, not the everyday peeps that go about their business quietly

wrong to NOT eat meat? surely you are intelligent enough not to be affected by a comment like that? you sound well educated and adjusted, why let something like that get you down when you KNOW its a mentality that cannot be reasoned with?
Chin up girl!!

each to their own opinion. yours is all well, however many humans may not see your views as as a race we are all acting for our own survival- survival of the fittest

vegetarian is good, healthy and light, don't mind trying to be one, once i prepare a big salad with virgin olive oil and balsamic vinegar,it was so delicious mmmmmm.........just cannot forget the taste and the feeling was light and comfortable, vegetarian people are happy and likable.happy veggie eating mate.

Quite a few people still hold the view that vegetarians and vegans are an odd group who eat rabbit food or just vegetables. Many people have no idea of the endless possibilities of making a vegan or vegetarian meal or the talent that goes into the preparation. Its really funny because anybody can cook up a lamb hop and throw some carrots and potatoes next to it but a person needs to focus in making a chickpea curry or a portabello mushroom dish.

As for feelings I have pet rabbits and I know they have feelings and feel happy when they are let out or given sultanas and apples as a treat , but then their are peopel who view the as food. I have raised pet lambs and pet calfs and they too have feelings and recognition of a humans voice etc. I could think of nothing worse than being a pet pig and trusting your owner only to be sold and sent to an abitore to be mmade into "People" food - something like a segment from a horror movie, and yet people defend this act of killing bye saying we need meat in our diet and we dont . But the fact is you and I can only keep doing what we do and let others do what they want to do!

I posted a link to a news article about the beef recall in the USA today.

I immediately got someone who was "fed up with us being superior"

Its just something they they can say without any fear they need to back it up with fact.

I've never met a "superior" vegetarian, i met one superior vegan, but in 42 years and running a veggie business seeing about 5,000 veggies every years that ONE person is a pretty small percentage.

I showed concern for animal welfare, but got attacked because my "salad was picked by illegal immigrants".

Feel free to explain that one to me if you can.

People I meet daily dont care what I eat, thank goodness, why should they.?

I do understand how you feel tho, mostly about people on here.

I just put it down to the fact that maybe meat eaters are more aggressive than veggies, always looking for a row, some of their comments are downright cruel and I would hate to meet them if thats their attitude.

the one I can not understand is veggies that eat Fish.......what sort of a veg is a tuna for slumpies sake?

The only reason I am answering this question is because it kind of annoyed me. I think your question has an air of superiority from the first statement, implying that your beliefs are right and those who cannot understand your way of thinking are wrong. You go so far as to call "these people" naive, and question whether they are just heartless and don't care about animals or other people. A lot veggies I have known take the same superior stance you have in your question when it comes to talking about omnivores. Vegans are even worse. Then you say "I wish they would all disappear". Come on...
In conclusion, you are your own undoing, and sound pretty immature. If you put so much stock in what other people think you will never be happy.
My father in law has been veggie for over 30 years and is the most respectful man I know.
By the way, I take factory farm practices very seriously, and it wounds my soul deeply to understand the plight of these animals.

You are right, why can't people understand.. but the question is aimed at you asked by omnivores.
look at your question. You seem to arrogate every virtue there is upon yourself. You seem to think that being a vegetarian automatically instills some sort of saintly character on those who practice it. That anybody who does not want to conform to the lifestyle that you see best for yourself, is automatically opposed to that for which you stand. There are obviously those who do not understand nor care for you chosen lifestyle or beliefs. But if you negatively stereotype ALL simply because they do not share the same values as you, then you are as guilty as they are. For you, its animal rights and la lifestyle. For others its mixed marriages, for some its religion. But if you boil it down to its bare essence, it's just plain bigotry.

Sweetie, we NEED meat to be able to survive. Sure you can limit yourself off with meat but you aren't going to live as long. If you don't eat meat, your bones become fragile.

What else are animals going to do? Are cows just going to sit there and eat grass for years to come?

We get essential foods that we need to survive by animals. Humans evolved to eat meat, usually they just ate meat and a piece of bread.

Why can't you understand that we are different? Don't try to push your beliefs on us just because we won't agree with you.

with your statement calling meat eaters heartless and uncaring you have put yourself above us and calling yourself superior..........and you want to know why we come here to defend ourselves............to each their own........live and let live........let us leave it at that

Honestly, do you read questions in any other section? In every section there are people who are "warring" against each other, everyone thinks they are right, I have found the best way to deal with anyone like this is to ignore it. You choose what suits your life, I'll choose what suits mine, I am not going to tell you that being vegetarian is wrong, it doesn't suit me, but that doesn't make it wrong. I do not feel superior to anyone, I would never criticise people for making their own choices, it's your life after all.

I'm not a vegetarian, I cant see me being one either, But, You have the right to choose how you live your life so long as nobody gets hurt. My parents are Carnivores right through to the bone (No Pun Intended) Unless I move out, I shall continue or I'll starve. My parents are Atheists also, but I read the Bible a lot, and I can't see any vegetarians in there, even Jesus, what do you think?
