Do you think Pam Anderson's weekend events cheapen, and maybe even damage, PETA?!

Question: and the animals rights campaign? If you read the story below Pam flew to Canada to denounce clubbing of baby seals, and then left on a jet to Paris to perform a srip show at the Crazy Horse. Do you think scheduling these two events back to back cheapens your view of PETA? Also, would it have gotten so much press if it wasn't:

A.) baby seals or

*.) any other woman besides Pam Anderson

Don't get me wrong I think Pam's heart is in the right place, so to speak, but I personally think, if you want people to take you seriously, you shouldn't try to sway influenital govenment officials on your way to perform at a strip show.

You raise a very important question not just about Pam Anderson, but celebrities with causes in general. George Clooney has said he would not endorse a candidate for that very reason, that it may damage that candidate. Bono has commanded quite a bit of respect. So I suppose it does depend on the celebrity, and the cause at hand, as you mentioned baby seals. And Bono doesnt go stripping after meeting with world leaders.
EDIT "So with that in mind would somebody like Bono make a bigger impact with govt officials over Pam?"
Yes I do think so. Thats not to say Pam couldnt make a bigger impact or command more respect if she really wanted to. But the way you go about it is very important.

PETA is already cheap and damaged. Even Pam Anderson can't make it any worse than it is.

pam anderson still has to work, and the more celebrities to advertise the bad treatment of animals the better, strip shows have nothing to do with treatment of animals so its fine with me.

I agree with Tiss. Any organization that would kill thousands of companion animals every year rather than have them live in homes with people is just wrong.

Like my dog would have a better life running around in the woods killing chipmunks for food.

Sheesh.

One of the reasons that Pam Anderson is such a great spokesmen for PETA is that she does get so much press. A perfect ex. is your question, your asking about her but your also mentioning PETA. I love the work she has done for animal rights and I'd rather see a woman strip than wear fur anyday!

No, I don't think so.
I'm not so uptight as to think that sex cheapens anything.
I like sex, and I think it's great. And what better way to get the mostly male government to take a look at seal clubbing... have a hot chic there...

Basically, PETA is dong what Green Peace first started doing a long time ago. Green Peace was really the first organization of it's kind to use such tactics, which were: get attention in any way possible; get the message out in any way possible.

You cannot control the media, but you can take advantage of their ways -- the media loves sex, violence, death, war, scandal, etc.

Such organizations just don't have the money or power to be able to purchase TV commercials, to buy politicians, to fund campaigns, etc.

So, it's not the messenger that is important, but the message. That's all.

peta needs no help they damage themselves with their actions

PETA and the HSUS are not what they claim to be. They believe in total animal liberation which means that they think that there should be no circuses, zoos (even AZA), laboratories (even medical), farms, service dogs, police dogs, and PETS of any kind. They believe that animals are better off DEAD then living with even the best pet owner.

The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) collected millions of dollars from individuals to save the animals during Katrina. They did not use the money to do that though. They are currently under investigation for it. What most people do not realize about HSUS is that they are not your local animal shelter. None of the money that they raise goes to the local animal shelter. It has also been provened that PETA uses its money to kill animals and support terrorist groups like the Animal Liberation Front (ALF) who has a tendency to blow up buildings to get their point across.

I don't know a lot about Pam. I look at her, I don't read about her. If she isn't being hypocritical about her protesting then I don't see why it wouldn't be taken seriously. That's just average tactics from PETA too. I wouldn't be surprised if they insisted she do a strip show. Got a link to that?? ;-)

It does seem highly hippocritical to protest meat and then objectify your own. You do have a point. It does make PETA look silly.
