Answers: I'm no vegie i just think people who wouldn't even if they were hungry sort of ...well let the side down....

You bet I would. I have no worries about that. Always known where my meat came from and used to cook for a living. Pass me the knife mate....

i am veggie purely for that reason.
There is no way i could kill it, cook it eat it so i leave it alone.

definetly not i would puke my guts out to the point where i will become a veggitarian

No, but only because I wouldn't know how, just like I wouldn't know what plants I could eat if they weren't in these handy little BirdsEye bags!
I don't feel guilty, I pay my butcher conscience money!

I prefer to let someone else do it, but I've killed for lunch on a few occasions.

No dude. I think I would "go veggie" before that happened. I am a big chicken (lol) when it comes to that... :P

sometimes i kill it cook it and eat it

although i feel remorse i soon get over it

Sure, been there, done that. It's no big deal.

been there, done that, got the t-shirt. At least once a year I go deer hunting and kill, gut, clean, butcher and store my kill. No big sweat.

ADDED:

I'd like to add my utmost respect for what Ms. Z said. If the average vegan were to learn from that statement there would be much less animosity towards you as a group. I do respect the choice but not the self-righteous zealotry which it is oft wrapped in.

I would rather be a vegetarian

hi, i love my meat and i love and care for many animals... YES I if I had too I would most certainly kill and prepare my own meat cows and other large animals I would find hard but chickens ...no problem!!
I have ducks.. don't like the meat but the eggs are great for cooking.
It would be hypocritical not to at least have a go , if one had too . If not I guess they starve or turn veggie
thanx
Susan

If you don't clean what you kill right away, you'd better NOT eat it! But that's all part of the process.

Admittedly, though, plucking chickens is a pain. I'd rather pay someone ELSE to do THAT.

So I take it you harvest your own rice???

I wouldn't enjoy it, but I would do it. I eat meat and I think it'd be hypocritical to refuse to kill it myself. If I'm gonna eat meat I have to accept that something died for it. And like you say, if I was hungry I'd do it.

People who can't accept that eating meat is the result of something dying should become vegetarian. Since I'm not, I'd have to be willing to kill.

Incidentally, I'd never kill anything except for food. I disagree with killing for fur or other body parts alone.

I am vegan, but I have hunted, killed, plucked and gut wild fowl and chickens.

I have never killed a big animals, but we had chickens when i was growing up and killed them all at the end of each summer.

I could do it again for myself and my family in there was a need, but I am happy being vegan.

I am not against hunting nor eating meat, but it would be nice if everyone would eat less meat. You don't need it everyday, let alone ever meal. Omnivores can help so much by just eating vegetarian 2-3 times a week. I don't want to convert people, I just want people to be aware....and slaughterhouse movies are not the way to go.

I don't blame people for not wanting to hunt....there was never a time that everyone hunted, there were some who did some who didn't. But meat was more valuable to people then, and they didn't waste.

:) cheers brotha...good question, here's a star.

I have and would again.

Yes...I have!
Rabbits..ducks, chicken caught killed plucked and drawn....and once went to a slaughter of lambs in N Yorkshire.
If I'm going to eat meat I might as well know how it gets to my table....and my kids know how it gets there too.
Funny how you look at lambs after....they don't look cute...just edible.

Yes, have done it many times. Killed plucked and gutted cockerels, skinned rabbits and eaten a bit of lead shot but I am still here. It is only natural if you live in a rural area and have livestock.

been there, done that, still doing it, will still be doing it...

next time, try leaving the comfort of the US or the west and see how the other half of the world lives..

I have prepared, Rabbit, Duck & Fish and have helped with Wild Pig, and Farm Slaughtered Sheep.

As a qualified butcher many a day I'm up to my elbows in chicken and animal guts.

They are dead so do not feel a thing when I stick my sharp knife into them, slit them along the belly and thrust my hand in grab a hold of their guts and pull.

Sure it stinks, sure it is not a nice job but it is my living.

If needs must you as a vegan, vegetarian or meateater would do it too.

yeah i have seen people kill animals and clean them not that bad... depends on size a deer or cow are gross but chickens and snakes and such are easy fish no prob.

Get out of the VEGETARIAN forum

i have before, so i have no problem with it...one vacation i took you didn't eat unless you caught it...we had some great trout and some tasty grilled snake...and let me just put this out there...wild turkey is far superior in flavor than domesticated turkey!

Not wishing to say EVERYONE here is lying.

BUT, looking at all the answers you would think the countryside is full of marauding people chasing cows with hatchets.

Have they really all killed thier own food ??

Its like when you post a question about organic food. The answers would have you believe that 98% of the population only eat organic food.

I'm sure some of you would, and have, killed your own food, but i really doubt all of you have. Those that have need not feel insulted.

If it came down to either kill+eat or starve, i"d kill.As a chef i"ve had to prepare allsorts of meats. Some still had thier fur +feathers on.

Have done and will do again.

I agree with you, if you don't like where it comes from them you really have no business eating it.

Meat is dead animal, it comes from a cute little lamb, or a soppy cow, best of all is magical piggies, pork, ham, bacon.

People shouldn't forget where it comes from. Tastes damm good though,

if i had to (& learned how). can do so with fish.

yes I would and I do

Have done on many occasions and will do again.
Man is a Carnivore not a lettuce muncher

As an omnivore, don't we kill everything we eat?

of course i would! its a matter of survival
i want to rear some chicks just so i can cut their throats........
mwah ha ha ha aha
