Ughhh vegetarian help please!?!

Question: im going to this steak restaurant for my aunts birthday with my whole (extended) family. Of course they HAVE to pick the one restaurant that only has one vegetarian pasta thing on the menu and I really don't want pasta. Do you have any suggestions? Should I make my own veggie Chicken and put it on a salad there? Do you think that would work?

I don't think they would let you do that. How about ordering two starters or sides (they normally have better vegetarian options for these)
That't what I do :)

Ask for no meat in the meal you pick.
I'm vegetarian too, and I've never been to a resturant that refused not to put meat on my meal.

Oh god. Is it Applebee's? I seem to always have that experience when I am forced to meet family there. I would say that if their menu doesn't accomadate your dietary needs, there is nothing wrong with bringing in your own food (and you can always blame it on the recent meat recall).

That would work, or you could just eat before you go and when people ask why you aren't eating then tell them you already ate... otherwise have some appetizers and stuff! =)

If you take your veg chicken, give it to someone when you get to the restaurant, and ask that they put it on your salad. Everyone is always happy to do that. It's less awkward than pulling out something and adding it at the table.

Steak houses usually serve baked potatoes, you could do a salad and baked potato, or you maybe could do some soup, as long as there's no chicken or beef broth in it. I always hated when I was vegetarian and my family only wanted to go to exclusively meaty restaurants. I ate a lot of bread back then...

You can call there ahead of time and tell them of your situation, and see if they can put together a veggie plate or something for you. It has worked for me in the past. Restaurants are a little more accomodating these days then they used to be.

Order the pasta and a salad, and don't make a fuss, or bring embarrassment to your aunt by bringing anything in, it's her day, so go with the flow. You can always eat later, if you want, it's more about celebrating her birthday than eating.

if i was your family, not to be rude or anything, i would think that would be a little tacky to bring your own meal. maybe you could deal for one night. athough, i do think that they couldve been a little more considerate..anyways good luck.

I agree with everyone else. You can ask the waiter what they have for your diet. I actually was at steak and shake, and they have NOTHING for vegetarians. I asked the waitress, and she was a vegetarian. She made me a special sandwich that she makes from time to time with people with the same request. They need to serve you, and they will for your business. Just aske for a meal minus the meat, like a shrimp salad or something. Believe it or not, alot of steakhouses have veggie burgers there.

All of the suggests above are fantastic. I recommend calling ahead, I am Hindu/veg. and date an American boy who loves to eat his steaks. He and his family go to steakhouses every other week. Generally the cooks are happy to accommodate a veggie platter of some sort that is not on the menu. It also makes a difference if it a chain like outback they are less flexible but they try as hard as they can (I've been there). The more notice they have the easier it is for them to put something together.

Do they have a salad bar?

Of course you can't bring food into a restaurant. That's very low class.

Maybe they have more vegetarian items than you think. Vegetables. Baked Potatoes. That kind of stuff.
