Of course, it is sad that they are making it seem like this is new and only happens in Cali. I mean the methods for *legally* killing and the entire process for slaughtering (people look up that word okay?) they have laws, and the laws itself for the slaughter and processing is cruel, anyone who denies this is unempathic.

allexgir: 76% of animals are skinned for their fur in China mainly. Because the method of killing without damage their fur is hitting them with a rock or banging their head against a rock, and most of the time they are still conscious or regain consciousness during the skinning. Why don't we give the animals a break, huh?

Please people do research, learn your facts!!!

I agree whole-heartedly. But because it was uncovered in California (more liberal state), it is shown on the news, in the papers, etc. If the Humane Society uncovered it in rural states like Wyoming or Nebraska, we probably would never have heard about it.

No, I don't agree with you. Yes, there are problems of abuse in the farm industry but there are some farms that treat their cows humanely. You can tell in the quality of the beef. I'm sure your a vegetarian, so there's no way for you to know that. This situation is a example of how the government is letting companies do whatever they want in the name of profit. Trasylol and the hormones in milk are prime examples of this.

this is trajic, and we know all slaughter houses have downed animals. they should have NOT allowed them to be eaten by humans, thats all!

No, I don't agree with your "opinion".

Do you think the places that they have abusive videos from are the only places they tried to get abusive video from? I'm sure groups like PETA have video from every single slaughterhouse in the U.S. Yet have very little video that shows any abuses. Why would they tell you about non-abusive video? It doesn't help their cause.

It's quite likely PETA has members that infiltrate the slaughterhouses as employees. It's very conceivable that these "planted" employees are the one's filmed abusing the animals to further PETA's agenda.

I don't believe that is what happened this time, but you'd be naive to believe it never happens.

100% agree. We raise our own meat every year. It's funny because everyone always freaks out that we eat what we raise. While we have our hogs, they are like family pets. They are played with, we spend time with them everyday, they are well fed and cared for. We only deal with one slaughter house which has an excellent reputation, I'm very picky about who is hauling them away. I do not want them abused etc. I was sick to my stomach yesterday when I seen the hilo pushing that cow to the slaughter house. It is a major problem everywhere, the conditions the animals are in are breeding grounds for disease and inhumanity. Any place like that should be required to have 24 hour surveylance cameras that are monitored by normal people who know the difference between right and wrong.

Right...they try hard not to abuse the animal and that does equal stress...
to point it happens at times...
Someone wrote in the other day...that the animals are skinned alive for there fur...
Give me a break....
Old farm girl here....we treated our animals with a lot of love...it was our income...

omg, i agree.
i just posted a question about that.
its sickening!!!!!

I completely agree and the only way to stop these sickos is to go vegeterian and protest. YOU IGNORANT SOBS FOR DISAGREEING!!!!! Im sure ur friend husband whatever doesnt tell you about what they do to the animals. They think its fun and get pleasure out of torturing them. ITS SICK AND THEY SHOULD GO TO JAIL. These problems really make my blood boil!!

and for all you morons that say animals eat animals FYI some animals are "herbavores" and have complete vegeterian diets. DEAL WITH IT!

Take care.

The cows arent abused on farms like they were there..if they are unfit to walk, or too sick they will be euthanized to end their suffering.

heck yea!!!
I am a big animal rights activist and Im serious when i saw the footage, i almost started to cry.
I hate how people do that
they just take advantage of smaller brained things and they think it makes them look superior but that is NOT THE CASE
It just makes them look like a total brainless idiot

I can understand how some individuals not directly involved in the agricultural industry were shocked and offended by the videos coming from the processing plant located in California. Some basic understanding of the production of animal derived food products must be within grasp to see that the conduct of the employees of this facility is not a regular occurrence in the industry.

Animals placed under severe stress, such as displayed by the videos will not yield a product acceptable for market. Cattle that are highly stressed within the days, hours, and minutes before harvesting will become "dark cutters." In essence blood capillaries rupture and a high amount of cortisol, the stress hormone, is released into the system. The animal's meat turns dark and is not palatable for consumption. So you see, treatment of the animal like this is not conducive to the financial well-being of the facility slaughtering the animal.

In addition, the USDA has regulations in place prohibiting the slaughter of "downers." In other words, non ambulatory animals which cannot enter the facility underneath their own power must be humanely dealt with and then marked by a state or federal meat inspector as "condemned" so as they will not enter the food chain.

Post-slaughter of healthy animals, a meat inspector conducts somewhat of an autopsy and views the glands and organs of an animal to make sure that it is safe to enter the food chain., if it is deemed unacceptable or questionable the entire carcass is condemned and will not reach grocery store shelves.

Inhumane treatment of livestock, at any stage of production, is economically detrimental to the industry. In a business where your bottom line rests with a healthy animal reaching market, Inhumane in simply unpractical.

In such "factory farms," as was phrased, animal well-being is of top priority. The micro-management made possible by concentrated agriculture has allowed for a healthier, safer product for the public. Undue stress and maltreatment is in negative relation to economic production of animals.

Rest assured, that in no way is the treatment shown in the videos commonplace or common practice.

No, I doesn't agree.

I make my living off cooking cows.

No I don't agree.
First of all, give people credit. Do you honestly think reading about this recall that I thought "Well, there ya have it, that is the ONLY place EVER ON THE FACE OF THE PLANET that abused animals!"

My husband is in management for one of the biggest meat producers in the world, I guarantee you no cow is mistreated because that equals stress and stress equals less money, and it's all about the money.
(and don't give me crap about "don't ya think the cow is stressed knowing it's going to die?" )
