Vegetarians do not eat any meat including chicken and fish...anyone who says I'm a vegetarian but I eat chicken or fish...is NOT a vegetarian. As a vegetarian you can not eat anything that was and animal or sea creature...vegans also choose to do this as well as not eat any animal products such as dairy & eggs.

JRS: chicken has the highest rate of bacterial contamination.

vegetarians don't eat anything with eyes, hearts, and brains

If it had a mother, it's not food for a vegetarian.

Vegetarians who eat chicken/fish/seafood are, quite simply, NOT vegetarians. They're omnivores.

Vegetarians don't eat animals. Period.

No vegetarians eat chicken or fish. They may call themselves vegetarians but they are mistaken.

If you are a true vegetarian, you do not eat red meat, chicken or fish, and some do not eat eggs or milk because of the production.

to kyle: potatoes have eyes, and artichokes have hearts. i can't think of vegetables with brains, but two out of three ain't bad.

to jenny: that's veganism, where you eat absolutely nothing that has origins in animals. vegetarians can eat eggs or milk, just not meat.

to amber: it's all a matter of personal preference. my girlfriend is a piscetarian (vegetarian who eats fish) and she eats fish but not other meats because fish don't have the same sort of appearance as a chicken or cow and it's harder to personify them as being tortured or whatever the cruel slaughtering process entails.

fish and chicken also have more health benefits than red meats like beef and pork. cutting out those meats means that when you eat meat, it's generally healthier for you, while you're still getting the nutritional benefits of animals that you don't get as easily being vegetarian or vegan.

basically, what i'm saying is that there's no need for you to pigeonhole yourself as a 'vegetarian'. it's just a label. for whatever reasons you want to be vegetarian, choose foods that embrace those reasons. if it's for health reasons, realize that vegetables don't have the same protein content that meats do, so to counteract that you need to increase your bean intake.

you can look on wikipedia for vegetarianism and related topics and decide what's best for you.

and for jennifer's following comment, i should clarify that the bacterial in chicken will die if you cook it correctly, so that point is moot. what matters is the nutritional content of chicken as opposed to red meat.

Most vegetarians (not vegans) that eat fish and chicken (without skin&fat) are for health reasons. As beef pork lamb and other red meat contained high saturated fat ( is imbedded in the meat). I am one of this type of vegetarian and I am much healthy now than when I was young (eating junk foods).

Vegetarians do not eat meat, poultry or seafood.
Until you decide to go vegan, everything else is acceptable.

You need to decide why you want to be a vegetarian, and then decide for yourself what meat you will include, if any, in your diet.

If you decide to include chicken and fish in your diet, I would strongly suggest finding a local farm and/or farmer's market where you can get chickens that have been pasture-raised since they will be more natural and not full of antibiotics and growth hormones that the "company" farms use when raising poultry.

It's all a matter of preference, and also what your body will tolerate. Whatever you do, don't change your diet too quickly or you may have some uncomfortable days until your body adjusts to the new way of eating.

Good luck!

i dont know but i dont eat red meat but i eat chicken sometimes and fish its ok if you do its all on how vegetarin you want to be

No vegetarians eat any dead animals, period. People who eat fish and chicken are not vegetarians, they are just omnivores who have cut out red meat. Whether or not it's OK for someone to eat fish and chicken is up to them; it might be OK but it's not vegetarian.

Vegetarians do not eat anything that an animal died for. That is no meat (including fish and poultry,) no meat broths, no lard or tallow, no gelatin, and no rennet.

who told you that? vegetarians don't eat chicken or fish. vegetarians don't eat meat, that's the whole point of vegetarianism.
