Why do the kids at my school have to be so hypocritical when it comes to meat?!

Question: Today when I was in the pool area of my school (we were about to start a new unit, but weren't dressed), this girl was eating her lunch before we got started because she missed her lunch. One of the other girls in my class asked her what kind of hamburger she was eating and the girl said that it was a chicken patty. The other girl says to her "good girl" as a sort of pat on the back for not eating meat on account on those leaked videos.

What I have to ask you is if these kids will ever stop being so hypocritical. Aren't chickens smart too? Don't they abuse chickens as much as cows?
It's okay if people eat meat, you can't change everyone, but why does it matter what kind of animal you're eating? They seem to be hypocrites in my eyes. Am I the only one, or do you agree?

haha! That made me laugh...someone praised someone else for eating chicken and not beef? Like eating chicken was a better alternative?

I think people need to open their eyes to what's going on in the meat industry. It's not specified to cows, but all other livestock. It's like finding out that fries have a lot of fat in them and praising someone for substituting with nachos.

There is a wonder. But don't dwell on it. There is too much other stuff to do...like get on with homework, study for tests, etc. cure the common cold, or cancer for goodness sake!

Okay i get it now! Thanks Ameena! yeah guess they don't know what kind of cruelty chickens go through its as horrible as the cattle! and for the laying hens its worse!

chickens are just as smart and cuddly(see the baby chicks especialy around easter time) they get abused quite a bit you can access those videos at peta's website but beware they are quite horrible to watch. alot of people do not consider chicken a meat because it isnt red meat it isnt as heavy or "meaty" in description and texture especialy if its processed then chicken more than beef realy loses its identity so to speak because its more of a sponge texture than a meaty texture. yes its hypocritical to eat chicken and consider yourself a veggitarian. but on the bright side not all of the animals are abused there are some brands that you can buy, and those companies are extra careful and humane with the animals, but it still doesnt get rid of the killing them part, it is just something to consider. i would prefer that meat to the meat of abused animals any day.

Chickens are for some reason not respected as much as some other animals. I think it's mainly because of tradition. "Bird brain", "running around like a chicken with her head cut off"...
Frustrating, because chickens are interesting, individual animals. I think it just takes getting to know some of them.

the humble chicken has saved many people from hunger and malnutrition over the centuries, and inhumane practices in commercial meat packing plants are abhorent, I slaughter my own meat on a regular basis and accept that I am feeding my body on the flesh of another creature. without the intimate awareness of what is involved in bringing meat to the table it is hypocritical to declare that beef or chicken is somehow morally superior. there is no reason for slaughter to be inhumane or cruel, just as there is no reason for butchering to be crude and dirty, but that is the nature of comercial meat packing. the goal is to transform animals into meat as quickly and cheaply as possible. they have forgotten the dignity of life and the humility required in accepting the sacrifice that the animals make.

If you want to eat meat JUST DO IT. It's full of iron and protine for growing bodies. If you want to be hypocritical im Australian. We eat the animals on our Coat of Arms

Yeah it is hypocritical but many teenage girls are dumb as bricks anyway.
But it is possible they were looking at it from a health perspective.

They saw the torture of the cows, they probably don't know about or have seen what happens to the other animals.

I've noticed that to...with all sorts of things. Most people are hypocritical. I don't know why. I wonder if it's just dumbness. But, once a person reaches 30, that's really dumb.

As different news comes and goes, people move from 1 meat to another(remember that pig movie a few years ago). They've been brain-washed into thinking of meat as a main food.

I don't think they abuse chickens as much as they abuse cattle. Cattle are bigger, slower, and less easy to contain. They can be frustrating in this way, and it is sometimes difficult to make sure that they stay healthy and humanely comfortable.

I don't think chickens have the problems that cattle do in this way.

And I agree, I am not against meat (though I do recognize the abuses of animals in mass slaughterhouses). However, I would rather support my local farmers who care for their cows and slaughter them humanely.

I know it seems frustrating, but you have to realize that people saw those videos and were upset by it. A lot of people take a very strong stance against these slaughterhouses and respect animals to a higher-than-normal degree. You might not agree, but you should at least understand where they are coming from.

Animal flesh is an addiction. Be kind as you would to any one else with an addiction problem.
Beside this is a free country their choice not yours. You can you only can control yourself.

Chickens and hens are abused the same if not more than cows and cattle, so yea they are basically wanna-bee vegetarians.
I hate when I see someone whos like "Im a vegetarian but I eat chicken".
No you're not, you're just a person who doesnt eat red-meat.
