Pasco vegetarians?!

Question: I'm a person who only eats fish maet, no other meat (pasco-vegetarian)

Every now and again, the topic will come up with my friends and they'll ask me why I eat fish, but still think myself as a type of vegetarian. The answer is I'm not entirely sure why I chose to be anymore, as I have been one for about 8 years.

If you are like me (only eat fish) what resons do you have?

  • You are a pescetarian if you eat fish.

Pesco vegetarian, no? I was like that for a while, when I just came off meat... I was sort of weaning myself off slowly, and later on I gave up fish too... one traditional response of pesco vegetarians, however, may be 'we still need protein, and fish are a good source of that.' They may also say 'fish do not feel pain, so it is okay to eat them'. Still others may say 'Stop being nosy, it's none of your business'.

Pescetarian is it? I'm sure I heard pesco-vegetarian, but I don't really care... I quite like 'pesky vegetarian', as in, the kind of vegetarian who refuses to eat anything you cook for them on the grounds that they suspect you put some meat in it secretly. he he he... I was that kind of vegetarian for quite a while too.

Oops, my ego alarm's going off, better get back to work ; )

Hmm- did I mention the kind of pesky vegetarian who censures you for what you eat? I'll admit to doing that once or twice myself...

    you are a pescitarian, not a pasco-vegetarian.

If you go with that, you will get less upset from veggies and others.

"Pescetarian" isn't a level of vegetarianism, it's a level of omnivore. At minimum, vegetarians don't eat animals. That goes for ALL animals.

I am also pesco - vegetarian, the reason why I became pesco - vege. is that I never liked eating meat anyway plus I don't like the way animals who are destined for the food market are treated, I decided to become a vegetarian when I was 14 but wasn't able to do so until I was 16, I love the taste of fish plus I don't think they are so badly treated, that is why I didn't take fish out of my diet. I don't eat cod though as that is endangered from overfishing so I won't 'help' with the extinction of the cod.

you guys are so hung up on labels and names, just eat what feels right to you!

You are not a vegetarian. In any way, shape or form. Vegetarians do not any ANY form of meat. As to why you are a pescatarian, you should consider why you won't eat any other forms of meat and why fish are different. That should give you an idea of where you stand on the issue.

The phrase is pescatarian, not pesco- vegetarian. Pesco-vegetarian implies that its a variation of vegetarianism. By the very definition, it is not.

I was a pescatarian (not pesco-vegetarian, because that's an oxymoron) for a while on my way to becoming vegetarian. I dropped red meat five years ago, and felt better both physically and about myself. After a couple of years I decided to become vegetarian, and studied up on the subject, and dropped poltery so I was just eating seafood. My last non vegetarian meal was shrimp pasta.

I think part of it is it's healthier than other omnivore diets. Part of it's taste- there are plenty of fake beef and chicken products but it's harder to find fake fish flavor.

hwy do you need a reason for what you eat? just eat a proper balanced diet include a bit of meat and then you wont have these feelings of inferiority anymore
