Are you a vegetarian, if so.. .WHY? can you convince me to be a vegetarian?!
So what is it.....you vegetarians.... that makes you NOT like meat? and you think you could try and convince me to change my diet?
Answers: I don't really care that people kill animals for food. I care if they're using them for unnecessary items that we can most certainly live without. I don't agree with the factories that abuse animals before they kill them. I think animals should be killed INSTANTLY. I support farm raised animals, that weren't tortured or pumped with hormones.
So what is it.....you vegetarians.... that makes you NOT like meat? and you think you could try and convince me to change my diet?
Well, I became vegetarian because I didn't want to support the corporate factory farms, but mostly, I wanted to help our environment.
I don't want to sound preachy....as lots of meat eaters call us so I will give some facts regarding farming and our environment.
1. farms are polluting our air...the greenhouse gases (400 different gases) that come out of these factory farms tops automobiles in the US.
2. Polluting our water: And estimates that more than 335 million tons of manure are produced annually on farms in the United States, which is polluting out water. Some say that the bird flu is caused by corporate farming (http://www.commondreams.org/headlines07/...
3. They are cutting down the rainforest to grow corn and soy, which feed the cows that get slaughtered and shipped to fast food chains.
3. the majority of grain that we grow goes to cows....it takes about 11-13 pounds of grain to get one pound of beef, If Americans would reduce meat consumption by just 10%, enough grain would be saved to feed the 60,000,000 people who die of hunger each year.
4. I work in environmental law and have found out some really crazy things,,,,,like they give this hormone to pigs that is so toxic to humans, that it is law that they stop administering this hormone at least 3 months before human consumption, but who knows if they are doing this? And that is just one piece of info that I know, and really, I know very little.
And well to me, giving my money to these people who don't care if the meat is healthy, they don't care of you or your family, or our communities or our environment. They want your money. I can't support them anymore.
So, I made a choice which put me in a minority. It is more difficult to be a vegetarian or vegan, but I can sleep at night.
And listen, I don't try to convert people, but, it would be nice if everyone ate vegetarian 2-3 times a week, we need more smart omnivores. I started this way, loved it so much went full vegetarian then years later became vegan, and I have never felt better.
Good luck....sorry to ramble...you asked for it :)
ummm...
i never tried to change your diet and im sure there have been several other vegans/vegetarians that have not tried to change your diet. Stop paying attention to all of the negatives and focus on the positives, i think that will make your life a lot easier.
I would never try to convince you to change your diet. If you happen to live near Old MacDonald's Farm, I'm happy for you.
Maybe you subconsciously WANT to change your diet, and you're looking for reasons to do so...
The tone of your question is rather hard to respond to.
If you have already made up your mind - about eating meat, which it seems you have. I would rather not waste my time trying to tell you of all the health benefits, ethical reasons, environmental benefits.
I personally do not care what you eat. But you have to ask yourself, why are you questioning your traditional methods, surely something is not right in your mind about meat. That makes you come here.
Do your own personal research, see what you think!
"pumped with hormones" Well, thats my reason... I don't eat meat because more than 3/4 of Americas livestock are pumped with growth hormones and other dangerous chemicals that are not NATURAL and that humans should not digest. Eating Vegetables is just as dangerous though because many vegetables are being genetically engineered with many harmful bacteria that are inserted into the seed before planting begins... Blah Blah Blah I could go on forever but simply if you eat meat you should eat organic meat... CERTIFIED organic meat because honestly you really have NO idea what was injected into the burger you are about to eat.
If you get a chance you should watch the movie below its pretty good....

Here are some reasons I stopped eating meat:
1. We dont need animal protein to survive/live healthy.
2. Eating meat can lead to serious health problems including heart disease.
3. Cooking meat (I'm assuming you don't eat it raw) kills all the vitamins, including B12.
4. Your kidneys have to work 3 times as hard just to digest it.
5. Meat stays in your body longer (if not until you die), being able to rot inside you. Have you every seen the older overweight men with the big, hard looking stomaches?
6. People who eat meat regularly, have bad body odor, bad breath etc. Dont take this offensivley.. I truthfully experienced this on my own.
7. Meat you've eaten six months ago is most likely still inside you, continuously releasing toxins into the bloodstream, causing acne and other problems.
Please dont take anything of what I said offensively, I use to eat meat all the time. I've experienced all this on my own. I do not think I'm better than anyone who chooses to eat meat, nor do I judge anyone who does. Thats your choice what you eat.. and I respect you for it.
If you choose not to believe what I said or dont agree with it, thats perfectly okay.
Just sharing what I know...not trying to change anyone. :)
I became a vegetarian because of my dad. I watched him go through the pain of a seven bypass graft surgery. I remember growing up he would eat tons of hamburgers and fatty meats. His doctor told him that this was his last chance. I will never forget seeing my dad in the ICU with all these tubes coming out of him. It really affected me.
I think diet is a very personal thing and while I am vegetarian, I don't begrudge folks who eat high-quality, organic meat. Personally I find the idea of consuming another creature completely repulsive. I live vegetables and feel better when they constitute the bulk of my diet.
These things were once living breathing things like you and I. What if some doctor, from the begining of your life decided to kill you when you hit puberty so he could have research, and you had no control over your fate? You spend your entire life, living in a small box, always crouching and being gawked at by the doctors that were going to kill you. That what we got with chickens and cows. Plus, it's a LOT heathier.
Pro's
- Vegans have better orgasms.
- Vegans get bigger inheritances
- You don't have to worry about family members coming over and eating you out of house and home.
- The vegan lifestyle has been shown to increase "male stamina" through "enhancement"
Cons
- I would like to say it is cheaper, but I am probably wrong.
- Without a grocery store, you would go hungry in the winter.
- Not being able to eat Wujoosay's steak, ribs, or pulled pork.
In defense of meat eaters, vegetarians cause just as much "methane gas" as farming does.....lol
Alright, so you want convincing?
ive shown this site to many friends, and they are all now vegetarians :)
www.meetyourmeat.com
you can watch the nasty, horrable things they do to each animal. Its very factual and informative.
go look at www.peta.org its discusting.
To answer your first question, no...*I* cannot convince you to be a vegetarian. It's a major lifestyle change that you must decide for yourself. I can only tell you what I've learned since becoming one and share my experiences with you.
You said that you don't agree with factories that abuse the animals before killing them...well that is reason enough for most people, as many animal farms are inhumane to its inhabitents.
1- I've found out that consuming large amounts of
animal protein increases the risk of heart attack, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and colon cancer (as well as various cancers that originate in the digestive tract).
2- Over half of all the antiobotics and medicines that are produced in the United States are administered to farm animals that will eventually become a food source. They are given growth hormones as well as medicines to "heal" them when they are wounded, crippled or sick. (and we all now know how they're actually treated in these instanced thanks to the video that was recently on the news).
3- When our bodies attempt to digest meat and other animal proteins (such as cheese and milk), our internal organs are taxed to the max. It is hard on our stomachs, kidneys and livers.
4- The average American consumes TOO MUCH protein because of all the animal products and by-products included in the Standard American Diet (SAD, isn't it?)
Personally, it's not about me liking or not liking meat. I have chosen to not eat it because of health and ethical reasons.
Well it is your decision, but I am always up for an argument. So here we go.
"I don't really care that people kill animals for food. I care if they're using them for unnecessary items that we can most certainly live without."
You don't need to eat meat, that is a myth. There is an excess of meat alternatives out there. Although, in small quantities meat can be healthy, it is not necessary!
"I think animals should be killed INSTANTLY. I support farm raised animals, that weren't tortured or pumped with hormones."
Although I do agree that if you are going to kill animals it should be instantaneous, and they should not be mistreated. I also feel that it is unethical to eat meat at all, animals have a right to live. And it is like stealing to eat meat, the animal's body is his/her own property which they cannot live without. You can, as I mentioned earlier, live without it though.
I eat vegetables.... Pigs and Cows and Chickens eat the vegetables, and "you are what you eat", so if they eat vegetables, they must be MADE OF vegetables, so they ARE vegetables.
Pass the steak sauce.....
